“Three WordPress Alternatives To Self-Hosted WordPress” written by Mike Marko.
Are you thinking of starting up a website and are looking for WordPress alternatives?
WordPress is the most website creation tool. It is the most widely preferred choice by website designers, including the design and development industries. And there’s no doubt about its popularity.
WordPress is very flexible and includes unlimited customization options and themes readily available for freely downloading. Being a well-known blog publishing application, WordPress offers everything for bloggers and the web developers. It is an Open source content management system (CMS) that is based on PHP and MySQL, and has plenty of features such as plug-in architecture and templates.
WordPress is the most downloaded website publishing platform, and has been the case for the past few years. It is safe to say that WordPress will not be going anywhere for a long period of time. It will remain a very popular platform for publishing. The community of WordPress is huge, and the community contributes plenty of plug-ins on the WordPress sites daily.
So, why should you look beyond the WordPress?
For many people, WordPress is too complicated. This is especially the case when we talk about small scale websites. Creating a self-hosted WordPress website can be a real pain, this is even more the case when you are not technologically incline.
But there are WordPress alternatives.
Three WordPress Alternatives
I will be discussing three WordPress alternatives you can consider.
The SquareSpace interface looks similar to WordPress, but it is significantly different. With SquareSpace there is no free option. The costs range from $8/month to $24/month, and are billed annually. The premium “Business Package” offers a complete e-commerce package with (almost) unlimited everything.
There is a free 14-day trial to see if you like it. After the 14-day trial, you can choose from one of the three premium packages.
One of the cool features within Square Space is their editing application known as LayoutEngine. Moving, editing and re-sizing images is a lot easier than with WordPress. Since the webpage layout is grid based, everything comes out balanced, aligned and just where you want it.
TypePad is a pretty good basic blogging platform. Some popular bloggers, such as Seth Godin, Paris Hilton and Geek Week, use the TypePad platform.
Since the website is hosted by TypePad, you can avoid a lot of the self-hosted blog headaches. The limited number of TypePad features can be a benefit because it focuses more on providing a smooth and stable blogging platform. TypePad isn’t subject to the same risks as a typical WordPress blog, which can fail from any of the thousands of themes and plug-ins available.
But you may become frustrated with TypePad as your blogging platform needs grow with your business.
Just like SquareSpace, there are no free packages available. There is a 14-day free trial. The rates range from $8.95 to $29.95 per month.
Blog.com offers a free and premium option similar to WordPress. You can use the free option to try out the blogging platform.
Of all the free sub-domains available, this one created the best website address that I’ve seen. Instead of yourname.typepad.com or yourname.wordpress.com, you get yourname.blog.com as part of the free option.
Just like WordPress, have the option of running multi-author blogs and of monetizing your site by running ads.
The Alternative: Managed WordPress Hosting
There is actually a better alternative to these WordPress alternatives, and that is with the Kalatu blog, which has managed WordPress hosting.
With managed WordPress hosting like Kalatu, you can avoid many of the common WordPress problems. The host takes care of the site maintenance.
The host also limits the plugins that you are allowed and able to install on your site. They only allow a small set of plugins that they have tested and approved. This means that you won’t install plugins that will crash your blog.
Advantages of the Kalatu Blog
There are a lot of advantages to the Empower Network Kalatu blog. These include, but are not limited to:
- Simplifying the entire process of setting up and maintaining your blog.
- The hosting is taken care of.
- Plugins to optimize your blog are taken care of.
- Optimized theme’s ready to go.
- Blogging wizard to help you get started blogging right away even if you have never blogged before.
- Blogging idea generator to help you come up with blogging topics when you are stuck.
You are basically ready to start blogging right away… “right out of the box”.
And blogging is the best way to create a long term, sustainable business that will create leads and sales on autopilot. And isn’t that the reason why we all want to build an online business? To be able to make money with less effort?
