“How to Blog for Money | How to Blog” written by Mike Marko.

Are you looking to make money online?

Maybe you want to make some extra cash?

Or maybe you want to know how to blog for money so you can leave your present job?

I understand where you are coming from. Blogging is a great the way to make money online. Bren and I make over 90% of our online income through our blog.
Since it may seem overwhelming at first on how to blog for money, I wanted to take the time to clear it up for you. That’s why I created this guide on how to blog for money.

So let’s get started.

How to Blog for Money

As I previously mentioned, Bren and I make over 90% of our online income using our blog.  Now before we dive into the details on how to blog for money, I think it’s a probably a good idea for you know who I am.

Who Am I To Talk About Blogging?

How to Make Money Blogging - how to make money onlineThat’s a pretty good question.

Over 2 years ago I didn’t know what a blog was, let alone that I would be teaching others how to make money blogging… Seriously! No clue!

Bren and I started with a blog that had an affiliate program. At the time I took a blind faith purchase and got started. Well… it wasn’t like I had to take a serious investment because it was only $25/month. But still it was intimidating starting something I knew nothing about.

During the past 2 years, Bren and I learned a LOT! I took a lot of courses on blogging, and how to promote blogs to get traffic. I was eager to learn as much as I could. And of course I’m still learning… and I expect it to be a lifelong learning process as we strive to keep getting better and serve our readers better.

But that’s what we really enjoy doing… Providing value to you.

While learning to master blogging over the past couple years, we were able to get on the leaderboards for several affiliate programs. Our results are attributed to our blog. And our income keeps climbing.

Enough about me… I’m sure you’re anxious to learn about how to blog for money. Let’s get started.

The following three tips elaborate on what we discussed in the video.

Tip #1: Determine Your Blogging Platform

How to Blog for Money - How to Blog - blogging platformThe first step is to pick a blogging platform.  There are a lot of different platforms to choose from.

The first choice you have is free vs paid. Personally, if you plan on having a serious business I would completely avoid free. You have no control over your blog, and your provider can shut you down without notice. I know of several people that had their free blogs shut down with no recourse, resulting in hours of hours of work… gone!

Paid blogs have the additional advantage of you being able to have more control over the ad space, which is extremely important. You want to be the one monetizing the traffic you worked hard to get.

The following blog post talks about Why Start a Blog and What Blog Platform to Choose and this one talks about the Kalatu blog, How Do You Start a Blog with Kalatu Premium – With Almost No Effort.

Tip #2: Pick Your Niche (and Target Audience)

How to blog for moneyIt is important to pick a target audience for your blog. Who you are speaking directly to. And then further narrow it down to a niche.

If you try to target everyone with your blog, it will actually shrink your audience. For example, if you want to read a blog about parenting you won’t want to have to wade through blog posts about car repair. If you wanted to know about car repair you would go to a car repair blog.

Here are several articles on how to pick your target audience and your niche.

Tip #3: Pick Your Products

How to blog for moneyFinally pick the products you want to promote. Like we discussed in the video, you should pick products that would be of benefit to your target audience. And I suggest you Google products that fit your niche.  That could be actual products or services.

For example, if you have a dog grooming blog then google “dog affiliate” and I am sure you will find affiliate products that would suite your dog grooming blog. Don’t pick products that are not somehow congruent to your blog niche. Promoting boating equipment to dog groomers will not result in very effective use of your website ad space, plus you are doing your visitors a disservice.

You should have a range of different types of products that follow the structure of Lesson #5 below.

Additional Lessons on How to Blog for Money

The following are some additional lessons on how to blog for money.

Lesson #1: Serve Your Audience First

how to make money blogging - guideThe number one thing to consider when learning how to blog for money is that you need to be a teacher, a mentor, and/or an entertainer first. Provide as much value as you can.

The money will follow after.

If you focus only on the money first, then it will be a lot more difficult to be successful. Product value to your audience and you will develop a devote following. Your blog is the “freebie” that you’ll use to attract customers or clients.

Lesson #2: Own Your Ad Space

You need to control the ad space on your blog because this is where most of the money is to be made.

When you use free blogs, most likely the ad space is limited or used by the provider. Free sites are geared towards making money for the provider.

Even when you own your own blog you shouldn’t sell the ad space. Of course selling ad space is attractive because it is passive income, but you can often make three to ten times more (or more) using the same ad space to sell affiliate products, or your own products or services.

Lesson #3: Don’t Go for the Sale Right Away

how to make money blogging - guide - sale right awayDon’t ask for the sale right away in your blog.

What I mean is instead of trying to get your visitors to buy your products upfront, you delay asking for the sale until later.

This is similar to what I talked about in Lesson #1 where you want to provide lots of value. When someone joins your email list, give them value. Give a free gift like an audio, ebook, or a series of videos. On our blog we give away our free bootcamp so our visitor can register for our training series on how to make money online. After a couple of videos into the series, we start recommending affiliate products that they can purchase to achieve the same results we talk about.

Give value first, then much later ask for the sale.

I want to clarify this: some interpret this to be never ask for the sale. I know I made that mistake at first. You always want to inevitably ask for the sale. Just don’t ask for the sale right away.

Lesson #4: The Main Purpose of a Blog Is to Collect Visitor Emails

how to make money blogging - guide - collect emailsIn my opinion, the main purpose of a blog is to collect emails. Sure you have quality content to attract your visitors, but your ultimate goal is to ask for their email by having them opt into your newsletter or free gift (i.e. lead magnet).

If you don’t get their email during their first visit, there is a very small chance that they will ever return again. They will leave and never come back.

Once you have their email, you can keep asking them back to your blog so they can consume even more of your quality content. By doing that you earn their trust.

Lesson #5: Have a Mix of Products with Different Price Points

There are four different types of products you should have to successfully make good money with your blog: lead magnet, funded proposal, reoccurring income, and big ticket items.

Lead Magnet: This is the free gift you give to have your visitor register on your email list (discussed in Lessons 3 & 4).

Funded Proposal: This takes the form of relatively inexpensive products or services you sell to a broader audience to help pay for advertising and other overhead for the blog and online business. These products typically sell from $7 to $50. Not only does the funded proposal help fund your overhead, but it also builds trust as the buyer (your visitor now becomes a buyer lead) gets used to making purchases from you. It is a psychology thing: that small purchase starts to build trust. Plus it helps get their credit card out in case you have an upsell ready to go.

Reoccuring Income: These products work much like your cable or internet bill: the customer pays a monthly fee to keep the service. In this case you offer your customer a chance to buy a service or product that requires them to pay a monthly fee. This fee may range from $25 to $150 per month. There is a lot of power in developing a large reoccurring income stream because you can be making money even when you don’t get any new customers.

Big Ticket Items: This is my favorite type of product. Big ticket items typically range from $500 to $5000 or more! I love big ticket items because it is actually much less work to sell one $1000 product than it is to sell 100 products worth $10. Plus there is a lot less effort required to serve the 1 customer who bought the bigger ticket item instead of 100 customers who paid you next to nothing.

In the end it is best to have a range of all four types of products offered through your blog. It will give you the ability to service a much larger audience.

Lesson #6: Blog Consistently

I am advocate of publishing content daily.  But even if you can’t blog daily at least publish consistently to help serve your visitors. Even if you only publish a blog monthly (and that is the least amount I suggest you post a blog) make sure it is at the same time every month so your visitors know when to expect it.

The advantage of blogging daily, or almost daily, is that Google will tend to favor.  You will show Google that your blog content is fresh is relevant. That will help you rank higher in search results. Also by blogging daily you create a LOT more content hitting a lot more keywords to help attract even more traffic to your content.

Lesson #7: Longer Blog Posts Perform Better

Do you know what works best for getting traffic to your blog? Creating longer content.

I wrote a blog post about how many words you should target to have in your blog post. In that blog post, I recommended for your blog post should be at least 600 words if you want to get found by Google.

SEO expert Niel Patel recommended in one of his blog posts that your blog post should be at least 1500 words, or ideally 2000 or more words. My Google ranking results also show that longer blog posts of 1500 words or more do have a better chance of ranking in the search engines.

The data DOES support that longer blog posts tend to get better rankings by search engines.

[For reference, this blog post is over 3,400 words]

Lesson #8: Promote At Least As Much Time As You Spend Writing

how to make money blogging - guide - promoteJust writing your blog post isn’t enough. You need to promote your blog post so others find it.

You should spend at LEAST as much time promoting a blog post as you do writing it. If you spend 5 hours a week writing blog posts, then you should spend at least 5 hours a week promoting them.

If you can’t spend that much time promoting your blog posts, then scale back on your writing.  Scale back enough so that you can spend at least the same amount time promoting as you write otherwise you’re not effectively using your time.

For tips on how to promote a blog post check out “3 Things to Do Right AFTER You’re Done Writing a Blog Post.

Lesson #9: Use Your Time Wisely

Make sure you spend your time working on higher value activities.

What that that means to you depends on your goal:  If your goal is to increase traffic then measure the number of visitors you get for each hour of effort.

That means if you spend 3 hours writing and promoting a blog post that brings you 50 visitors, and you invest another 5 hours writing and promoting another blog post that brings you 250 visitors, you need to determine which effort best serves you. If you do the math for this example, you’ll see that the first blog post brings roughly 17 visitors per hour of effort while the second blog post brings you 50 visitors per hour of effort.

Know your numbers.  Make sure you are recording your time spent and analyzing your Google analytics.

You may find that guest posting, especially early on, may be better use of your time rather than publishing fresh content on your own blog.  In that case you may try to publish 25% of your early content effort as a guest blogger. You still have to build up your blog, but now you can more efficiently build up traffic to your own new blog.

Now don’t get me wrong… you still must create content for your new blog. You have to build it in order for it to be a more efficient use of your time. You want your own organic traffic.

But when you start, your new blog carries little weight.

Lesson #10: You Are Your Blog’s Worse Bottleneck

how to make money blogging - guide - slowing down growthThe biggest contributor slowing the progress of your blog is that you are doing everything. You have to deal with technical issues (unless you use a blog system like this), read books and articles about your field, answer questions from readers, syndicate/market your blog posts… and the list goes on.

The more you think about it, the more you must realize that you can’t do everything.

That’s where I take my queue from lean manufacturing processes. If a single machine is slowing down the work of others in the factory, then it can cost tons of money. A smart manufacturing manager will be willing to spend money to eliminate the bottlenecks. In most cases, eliminating the bottleneck is much cheaper than the cost of the actual bottleneck to production.

And this is true of almost any process, including blogging. While we typically don’t buy a new machine to help (though I did buy a new computer because my laptop was way too slow and out of date), we might purchase software, increase our internet speed, or hire a virtual assistant or programmer. Sure it may seem expensive at first glance, but the cost of the bottleneck is often much greater than what you have to spend to eliminate it.

Initially we did all the work on our blog ourselves.  But as we started to produce a small amount of income we reinvested in tools and software to speed things up. We eventually hired virtual assistants to help with some of the mundane and routine tasks that weren’t worth our time to perform; tasks that still had to be done.

Lesson #11: Start to Selling From Day 1

How many subscribers should you have before you start selling? 1,000? 5,000? More?

Ok, I know… I already gave you the answer in the title of this lesson: you should be selling from day one.

And the reason is because you need the money.

Remember when I said in Lesson #10 that you want to be able to automate as much as possible?  Since you are effectively the bottle neck in your business you need to get as many tools (and a virtual assistant) as quickly as possible. When you start making money, you can start to invest in these resources to further grow your business.

Now be careful not to make your blog into a huge commercial. You’ll push away your potential customers because nobody likes to be sold. Instead make the option to buy available, and remind them occasionally that you do have things available for purchase.

Lesson #12: Forget Your Google Search Results

Don’t look at your Google search results… don’t care about them….

Now don’t get me wrong: I am a firm advocate of SEO and getting found on Google. But when your blog is new, for the first 6 to 12 months you should not spend a lot of time on SEO optimizing your blog.

Your blog is new.  Google won’t really pay your blog much attention for the first three to six months.

Do some very basic SEO and keyword research, but don’t spend a lot on time on it. Spend your time by marketing your blog using other methods.  Eventually people will start finding your blog even without SEO optimized blog posts.

Just get to writing quality content.

You can always revisit old blog posts a year later and freshen them up, and SEO optimize them.

Lesson #13: Don’t Waste Your Time Creating Your Own Products

When you first start off, you will have NO CLUE what your customers want. They often don’t know what they want, so how would you know?

So spending time and money developing products is a waste of your time.

Instead there are plenty of affiliate products ready for you to promote to make money online.

Only once you have a firmly established blog and are making substantial money should you even think about making your own products. For the time being there is better uses for your time.

Lesson #14: Learn, Do, Teach

how to make money blogging - guide - learn do teachThis is the last but more important lesson. This lesson ties back to the very first lesson where I talk about serving your audience.

You best serve your audience be always striving to learn new things. Keep expanding your mind and strive to be the best in your niche.  Then share what you learn with your audience.

Practice what you learn, measure the results, and then teach them in your blog. Be sure to be open about your journey because your audience will appreciate your openness. Talk about your success AND your failures.

By continually learning new things you will never run out of great content to create for your blog and your audience.

In addition to making the blog posting more eye appealing, it is a great way to put in links.  I will actually make all my pictures into links.  People have a tenancy to want to click on pictures… so I make sure that I take them somewhere when they do.

How to Start a Blog – My WordPress Blog – Episode 1.

As we discussed previously in “How to Make Money Blogging” and “How to Start a Blog“, you need to use a blog to really get content out on the internet.  With this content you eventually create a brand for yourself, and develop followers.  It is to these followers that you can promote products to and potentially get sales.  But it all start with a blog.

Setting up the blog may take some effort, but once that is done, it is easy to create 1-3 blogs a day.  Creating at least one blog a day is key to building up the content you need to become recognized and followed.

If you do not have a blog yet, I highly recommend signing up for a blog with Influx Entrepreneur.  Their blog will give you the flexibility to create a very professional looking website, and they have an amazing 24/7 support team.  The first steps in how to start a blog using the Influx Entrepreneur WordPress is demonstrated in the video below.

The video shows that a great trick is to first create a text document that contains the raw form of you blog.  I create a lot of my blog posts using the voice to text feature on my iPhone.  This saves me a lot of time as I take advantage of the time I would otherwise be doing only driving.  Once you have the text (which is ideally, though not necessarily, 500-800 words) you can then copy and past it over to your WordPress blog.

After learning the first part of how to start a blog using WordPress, you are ready to start adding details to the blog to make it more appealing.  This is covered in another article (click here to got to Episode 2).

5 Easy Steps on How to Start a Blog and Make Money Online

5 Easy Steps on How to Start a Blog and Make Money Online” written by Mike Marko.

Are you curious on how to make money online?  And you heard that you need a blog and are now wondering how to start a blog?

Then look no further.  We’ll be going through five easy steps on how to start a blog.

A blog can be a solid way to make long-term income online.  All you have to do if write stuff about things you are actually interested in.  Sure there is a little more to it than that, and it isn’t for everyone.  This is definitely not a get rich quick plan.  If you are looking for something like that, then blogging is definitely not the place for you.

Sure you can make a lot of money online, but like any business including traditional brick-and-mortar businesses, it’s not guaranteed.  If someone tells you elsewise then they are not be 100% honest.

There’s a big difference between making money online and going to a job every day: If you do your blog right, the work you do initially will continue making money for years to come.  You are investing your time instead of trading your time for money.

How Does A Blog Work for Making Money Online?

Search engines like Google find and cache (store for reference) the article that you write.  As you write each post is “worth more” to the search engines.  As your site gains credibility it means that you website will get more and more traffic.

As you get more people visiting your website, they have the opportunity to look also at what you are promoting and may purchase something.  This is more likely when you are writing an article that helps them satisfy a need of theirs (and hence the reason for the online search in the first place).

Basically the more you blog, the more traffic you get.  The more traffic you get the more sales you can get.

And the sooner you get started, the sooner you can start to make money online.

Let’s Learn How to Start a Blog

Are you ready to start building your online business?  Let’s walk through the steps.

how to start a blog - create your blog

Step 1: Create Your Blog

The first step is to find a home for your blog.  This will also become your home on the internet.  When you write and publish your blog posts, this is where they will show up.  You decorate and personalize your blog just like you would your own home… to give it a bit of your taste and personality.

Don’t make the mistake of confusing an old-school web host for a blog host. If you get a web host you are basically buying just the shell of your new home – to carry the analogy further, you still have to build all the walls and install the plumbing yourself!

Unless you have time to spend and love techie stuff, go with a full service blog host where someone else manages all the techie stuff so that you can focus on creating content.

Bren and I highly recommend the Influx Entrepreneur blog website for this.  They provide a “well-built and well maintained home” for your blog.  That way you can focus on communicating with your audience.  This blogging system also has the ability to help you rank faster on the search engines (remember how being found can help increase traffic, and thus more income).  The Influx Entrepreneur blogging system can also be upgraded to be a membership site where you can charge for access to areas of your site.

How to SEO Your Website

How to SEO Your Website” written by Mike Marko.

I love SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

Yeah, I said it.  If you have been a regular follower of our blog you will know that I am an SEO addict.

It could have something to do with how much I love strategy games, and that I am also an engineer by trade.  To me SEO is like a big game that I love to play.

So let’s get started with today’s topic.

So Let’s Get Started

In previous blog posts we talked about both on-page and off-page SEO.  And up to this point we have really haven’t talked about how to structure your website to optimize for SEO.

There are some specific techniques needed when setting up your website to help ensure that you take full advantage of your SEO efforts.

Therefore in this blog post I am going to talk about how to SEO your website.

Free Bootcamp Training Mini-Course

How to SEO Your Website

Most people when they setup their blog or website give little thought to the overall structure of the static pages.  They may have a few dropdown menu options like “About Us” and “Blog” but that pretty much sums it up.

What they fail to do is put a little more thought into the website design.  When you know how to SEO your website properly, you can spend a few more minutes up front laying out the pages such that you control the flow of the “link juice”, or how the backlinks are structured to build up upon one another.

The technique I use is setting up the static pages into silos.  This is where related pages are structure together so that they support each other and pass link juice between each other.   But they do not have backlinks outside this silo except to the website root page (e.g. linked to http//brenandmike.influxentrepreneur.net).

Possible silos include “About” and “Resources” like we have on our website.  There are others we will be adding at a later date, but for now those are the only two silos we have.

The diagram below helps illustrate a single silo.

How to SEO Your Website - Mike Marko

Using BrenAndMike.com As An Example in How to SEO Your Website

In our example, the menu option static page will be “Resources”.  From the “Resources” page we link to individual product pages like the IPAS 2 product page and the Empower Network review page.  If you look toward the bottom of each of these product pages, towards the very bottom you will see “Learn more about our other recommended online business marketing products by clicking here.”  This anchor text actual creates a link back to the root of the silo, in this case the Resource page.  This way the link juice is passed from the product pages to the Resource page and then back to the product pages.

The product pages are then further reinforced with links from blog posts to help build up their link juice.  Again for the IPAS2 system, we have created several dozen blog posts that specifically provide backlinks to the product page.  (If you pay attention, this blog page is actually providing three backlinks to the product page using three different anchor texts.)

Now if you backlink all of these pages, but the static pages and the blog posts, you provide a good flow of link juice to the pages you want to rank.  In fact, this structure will inherently help the entire website as a whole if you do it right…

Wrap Up

So as you can see in this blog post, with a little bit of forethought you can setup your website so that it is optimized for SEO.  Doing SEO doesn’t have to be all that complicated or scary… it just requires a bit of planning and thought.

But the benefits of doing this is huge… and is evergreen (meaning that it will last indefinitely as long as the website is up).

Blogging for Profit Workshop

Blogging for Profit Workshop” written by Mike Marko.

Ok, ok… I sound like a broken record.  I do love blogging…

But the reason is I am ADDICTED to having free, targeted leads being added to my email list every day.  So Bren and I keep blogging daily to build up our number of chances of being found on Google.  One blog post will not make you rich… but if you blog regularly it helps you build up a list of targeted website visitors.

It is important to remember that what you write and how you write it will attract a particular crowd…. if you are cheerful and helpful then you will attract cheerful and helpful people to your list.  If you complain and are argumentative a lot then that will be the type of people you attract to your list.  Who would you rather work with?

Blogging is in my opinion the best way to get targeted leads.  I have also found that if you target your lead well then they also tend to convert to sales a lot easier than true cold traffic.  They already got to know you to some degree plus they got to your website by putting in a particular keyword phrase into Google.

VIDEO: Blogging for Profit Workshop

Today I heard some training that I thought would be great to share with you.  It is on my favorite topic…. blogging (ok, I saw your eyes roll).

In these videos, Lisa does a great way of demonstrating a great way to use a blog to find targeted leads – laser targeted leads.

PART 1: Blogging for Profit Workshop

PART 2: Blogging for Profit Workshop

As you can tell from the videos, it is extremely important to blog regularly… and equally important is to do a little homework up front before you start blogging.  The key takeaways of the blogging for profit workshop are:

  1. Look for keywords that are at least three words long.
  2. Look for keywords that get at least 1000 searches per month.
  3. Look keywords that have a maximum of 200,000 websites as competition.

Now to get the blogging system mentioned in the videos, click the button below to activate your Viral Blog.

Wrap Up

There were lots of value contained in those two videos.  Although blogging is not a “get rich quick” scheme, it does work as long as you are diligent at blogging every day.  Keep a log of keywords you have used for your blog for to help prevent from being blogging twice for the same keyword phrase .

There are no excuses for lack of three-word keyword phrases… there are tons out there.  Just make sure you do a little homework up front to maximize the results of your blogging effort.

13 Blog Statistics that Answer “Why Blog Regularly”

13 Blog Statistics that Answer ‘Why Blog Regularly’” written by Mike Marko.

I’m a HUGE fan of blogging.  If you’ve been following us you would should have read our blog post, How to Blog – 10 Tips to Create a Six-Figure Blog.  Blogging is my favorite way to increase our presence online.

When you combine blogging with SEO, Search Engine Optimization,  you have a powerful way of bringing more eyes on your offer or message.

But if that wasn’t reason enough to answer the question, “why blog?  I have come up with 13 blog statistics to help answer this question.

These blog statistics will surprise you.  I found some really interesting.

13 Blog Statistics that Answer “Why Blog Regularly”

1) 80% New Visits to Your Website.

When you blog daily, 80% of your blog visits are from new readers.  This is one reason why it’s important to try and get people to sign up to your email list… that way you can tell visitors when you have posted a new blog that might interest them.  You can also use social media like Facebook and Google+ to help syndicate your blog posts and let people know that you’ve published new content.

I like to use GetResponse to manage my email list, and I use OnlyWire to help me syndicate my blog posts using social bookmarking.

2) Get More Traffic

Sites that post daily get FIVE times more traffic than those that post weekly or less frequently.

When I know that I’m going to be unable to post for a few days, I build up a queue of blog posts that will be published at regular intervals (one a day).  That way I can give the appearance of providing daily content.  The Influx Entrepreneur Marketing/Blogging Website makes scheduling blog posts easy.

3) You Get More Traffic with The More Content You Publish

Once you have at least 51 blog posts, your blog traffic will increase on average by 53%.  Traffic goes up by THREE times after publishing 100 blog posts.  And it goes up 4.5 times after 200 blog posts.

When you look at the blog of leaders in the online MLM or affiliate marketing arena, you will notice that on after that they have on average 400 to 600 blog posts each on just one of their websites.  These stats together should help illustrate the importance of accumulating as many blog posts as you can as quickly as you can (without sacrificing quality).  Publish at least one blog post a day and it will take a 1.5 to 2 years to get roughly the same order of magnitude of traffic as industry leaders.

You still need to post quality otherwise you will have a high bounce rate, so don’t rush too much.

4) Blog Post Length

The blog statistic shows that longer blog posts attract more backlinks, and that you should target 1,500 words more.  I differ on this… I believe that while it is important to have longer blog posts, the average blog post should be 800 to 1000 words.  You want the blog posts to be long enough to contain good content, but most people want to be able to read short concise blog posts.  You also want the blog post to be long enough to keep the reader on the page for at least a minute.

There are cases where you want to have a MUCH longer blog post.. or pillar content.  These blog posts are epic in size and they will attract a lot of backlinks if they contain a lot of value.  You can learn more about pillar content by clicking here.

5) Include Images

According to blog statistics, apparently blog posts with images attract more backlinks.  You can include screen shots, graphs and photos.  I suspect this also includes imbedded videos.

Before using images you find online, make sure you check out this blog post, What Kind of Photos Can You Use On Your Blog Legally?

6) Have them Share It

Interestingly, the blog statistics shows that 42% of people measure the social influence of a blog by the number of social media shares it gets.

Therefore you need to make it easy for your content to be shared.  Adding social share buttons is one way to do this.  I also include a call to action in the blog post to ask the reader to share, “sharing is care.”

7) Make it Good

This should be no surprise… make sure you have content that is worth reading.  Make sure it’s quality stuff and people will want to come back.  Also make sure the design of the page is good, pleasing to the eye, and helps the eye flow through the page to the end.

If you had to choose between blogging daily or putting out quality content… I hate to hear myself say this but you really need to put out quality content.  Blogging daily is very important, but if that means your material is crap then what’s the point of publishing the content if nobody wants to read it?

8) Manic Monday’s

Apparently nobody really does that much work on Monday’s… blogs get the highest traffic on Monday mornings.  Therefore if you can’t blog daily make sure you publish at least on post early Monday morning.  Since this is the highest traffic day… save your best material for Monday.  That way they’ll want to come back again next Monday.

sharing-social-media - 13 Blog Statistics that Answer Why Blog Regularly9) Thursdays Shares

This is a bazaar stat… blogs with more social media followers get more traffic and backlinks on Thursdays.  I don’t know the reasoning for this, so I’ll just smile and nod.   You may want sure you post one blog post Thursday as well.

10) Grow Your Tribe

The more social media followers you have, the more traffic and backlinks you get.  Spend the time to grow your follower count on your social media platforms.

11) Guest Bloggers

This is an interesting stat: 63% of people feel that multiple authors add more credibility to the blog.

I ‘m not sure if this would include us since both Bren and I post separately in our forum.  I am not sure if we want any more guest bloggers since it waters down our brand.  This is still an interesting stat to think about.

12) Blog Posts Are More Effective

People are 70% more likely to learn about your company from articles than from ads.  Invest more time into quality everygreen blog posts instead of temporary ads.

This makes sense because people “want to buy, but don’t want to be sold.”

13) Quadruple Your Leads

What another reason why blog every day?  Blogging daily will generate 4 times more leads than blogs that post weekly or less frequently.

Wrap Up

There you have it… these blog statistics give more reasons why you should blog daily (as if I haven’t already given lots of reasons in the past).  If you are not blogging daily, you are doing yourself an injustice.

No excuses… just get’er done.

Here’s to your future success blogging!

How to Build a Backlink Network to Help Rank in Google

How to Build a Backlink Network to Help Rank in Google” written by Mike Marko.

If you have been following me over the past few weeks, you know that Bren and I have been successfully promoting the IPAS2 system.  To help promote it, I have been doing SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to rank in the top three spots in Google for several keyword phrases related to the IPAS 2 System.

I have already talked about the difference between on-page and off-page SEO.

In this blog post I want to talk more about how to build a backlink network that will help you improve your chances of ranking in Google.

How to Build a Backlink Network

Step one when learning how to build a backlink network is… identify what page you want to rank in Google.

This page should be setup with good on-page SEO, and contains tons of good content, is visually appealing, and generally invites people to read it.  You don’t want people to have a bad first impression.

Free Bootcamp Training Mini-Course

First Step in How to Build a Backlink Network – Tier 1

Next we built a tier 1 backlink, or a backlink that points directly to the page we want to rank, as shown in the diagram below.

Write a 600+ word article to put the backlink in.  I like keep to the topic that is related to the target page because sometimes those pages will rank too, but it isn’t necessary.  Make sure to include the keyword you want to help rank for in the article.

SpinRewriter 5 Review - Article Spinning Software 2Next I use an article spinner, like SpinRewriter (here is my affiliate link), to spin the article up to 30 times.  I spin it up to 30 times so that it can be used up to 30 times on different websites before having to create a new article.

Then I post the spun article on a Web 2.0 site, like Blogger or WordPress.  Web 2.0’s should be included in your backlink portfolio because they have more credibility.   You want to minimize any “weak” or “junk” backlinks to the page you are trying to rank because they could hurt your ranking if they are done in excess.  If it doesn’t look natural, or likely, from natural backlinking then it has a higher chance of being penalized.

Now link to the target article from the post.  There are different ways to link to the target article.  You need to vary this up as much as possible to make it appear natural to Google.  The different ways are:

1)  Naked URL.  This is your full website address right in the article.  (e.g. “http://brenandmike.influxentrepreneur.info/what-is-ipas-2/”)

2)  Brand Anchors.  This is where you use your brand name in the anchor text.  Google gives priority to a site with obvious branding.  (e.g. “Bren and Mike”)

3)  Different Variations of Keywords in Anchor Text.  This is where you vary up the text used to link to the target site.  Don’t just use the keyword phrase in your anchor text because that doesn’t look natural.  (e.g. “IPAS 2” and “click here for more”)

4) Hyperlinked Images.  This method is often overlooked, but people love to click on images.  Therefore it is a huge advantage to you to hyperlink all images.  These hyperlinks can either become backlinks to your target page, or links to lead capture pages.

Growing Your Business with SEO and Affiliate Marketing - ipas2

Second Step in How to Build a Backlink Network – Tier 2 & Tier 3

The next stage is to build up the tier 2 and tier 3 backlinks.  The purpose of these backlinks is to shore up the strength, or increase the link juice, of the tier 1 backlink.  These axillary backlinks don’t have to be “solid” backlinks, and they can include social bookmarks and other poorer backlinks,  The tier 1 backlink acts as a buffer to the page you are trying to rank, so if one type of backlink gets heavily penalized then that hit will be buffered by the tier 1 backlink.

To manually build tier 2 and tier 3 backlinks can be very tedious.  That is why I use LinkEmperor (here is my affiliate link) to create these backlinks and continually adding to these backlinks over time.

You want to keep building backlinks to the page you’re trying to rank.  If the backlinking stops, then the content may appear outdated to Google, and fall out of favor.

How to Build a Backlink Network

Wrap Up

This blog post describes how to build a backlink network from a general perspective.  Look for more blog posts about SEO and my strategy for backlinking sites like the IPAS2 site I ranked during the HUGE IPAS 2 System product launch.

SIDE NOTE: Note how this blog post is actually a tier 1 a backlink to the IPAS2 Review page.  🙂
