I get a lot of message from people that are obviously copy & paste. They often sound like, “looking for like-minded people to connect with.”
These message all pretty much sound the same!
Your goal when using Facebook for business is to NOT annoy people. Don’t make them think you don’t care about them. If you are just being another of those annoying people sending a copy & paste message you are telling the other person that you don’t care… and you are not interested in building a true relationship.
If you really want to build a strong following, friend 5-10 people a day and send them a PERSONAL message. Make it pertain to profile, picture, or information on their page. This helps build rapport. Sure this will take time, but at least you are not so impersonal that no one want to be your friend anyway. Learn people skills so that you an use Facebook effectively. You need to get them to like and trust you.
Facebook for Business Mistake #2. Posting on Other People’s Walls
This is not about a quick “thanks for the friends request” or “it is great to meet you” kind of post.
I am talking about an obvious call to action to have people join your business opportunity or purchase your product. NEVER post links on someone’s page unless you KNOW they will be ok with it. And let me also add in tagging people to a picture that is OBVIOUSLY not them in the picture.
People absolutely hate this.
If you don’t believe me, go ahead and try it anyway. They will probably delete the post, and may even unfriend you or even talk about you negatively behind your back.
Be professional if you are using Facebook for business. Use social media to get to know people and build your relationships… not to spam people about your business.
Facebook for Business Mistake #3: Asking People to Join Your Fan Page (or now Business Page)
It is one thing if they are people you actually know and are true friends… but if you are just building that relationship don’t ask them to like your fan page.
You are supposed to be using your fan page to develop professional relationships, and to promote your products. If you ask people to like your fan page you are not developing the right posture up front. Then them naturally like your page.
Facebook for Business Mistake #4: Arguing on Walls
I can’t believe I actually have to say this. But this one is pretty straight forward, but I have to put this here because I STILL see people doing this.
Would your role model actually be doing this? Do you think it gives you are good posture? Or make you look good in front of all those potential customers and contacts?
No it doesn’t!
It makes them look bad in front of a lot of people. A seriously minded, successful business owner would not have the time on their hands to post garbage like that. If you see something posted about politics, religion, or really about anything that “sets you off”… leave it alone and focus on your stuff!
Once you start arguing in public it makes you look EXTREMELY unprofessional. This happens a lot with competing MLM or network marketing companies… someone posts something negative and suddenly the gloves come off! Before you know it everyone is arguing why this company is better, etc. This is crazy, and very detrimental to your business.
Besides, you attract people to you that reflect how you put yourself out into the world. Do you really want to attract people that argue a lot?
