How to Start a Blog That Makes Money – Make Money From Blogging.
UPDATE: Added a section about how to determine your target audience. Knowing who your target audience is an important part of blogging. If you write for everyone, you write to no one.
You have probably heard that you can make money from blogging.
There are a lot of blogs on the internet, but unfortunately not all of them make money. In a US News online article, it was stated that according to the Nielson Company, there were 181 million blogs at the end of 2011. This means that there is a lot of competition out there. Fortunately, the fact that you have managed to find this blog post means that you will have a major advantage over the competition.
Today we’re going to discuss how to start a blog that makes money. Now you probably won’t be an overnight success… so if you think you will get rich overnight I would suggest you go buy a lottery ticket instead. But through consistent effort, and following these guidelines, you will be definitely on your way.
When thinking about how to start a blog that makes money, choosing what you want to talk about is very important. The right niche or topic can determine how much competition you will have, and what products you can potentially sell. For our website, http://brenandmike.influxentrepreneur.info, we chose our niche to be “coaching for making money online” combined with “Law of Attraction and motivation.” The reason we selected this focused niche because it combined our practicing of the Law of Attraction and our love of helping people build a lucrative future.

Step 2 – Determine Your Audience
When developing a blog that makes money, the next step after knowing your blog niche is to know who your audience will be. Learn what an Avatar is, and key things to think about when zeroing in on your target audience by reading this blog post, How to Determine a Target Audience for Your Blog or Online Content.
Step 3 – Setup Your Blog
Next you setup your blog. I personally suggest you don’t use free blogs for your main website because you don’t have the control over your banner space. Free blogs are great for creating back links (links reference your main blog posts), but not for your main blog. Selecting the right blog platform is a key step when considering how to start a blog that makes money.
I recommend two different blog platforms depending on how savvy your are on the computer. Both are great blog systems, but they offer different features and functionality.
Viral Blogging System
I recommend this to people who want a blog ready to go “out of the box.” It is the easy answer to people who want to make money from blogging right away. It is simple to use, and yet you still have the functionality to customize the look if you want. You are allowed to create as many as 10 blogs once you purchase it for the low monthly fee of $25/month. Yes… 10 blogs for $25/month.
Even if you only intend to have one blog, you can still use the other 9 to create back links if you wish.
This is the blog system Bren and I started with, and still use today. It really is a simply yet powerful system that allows you to start blogging with very little setup.
The following video shows you how to set it up and customize.
Influx Entrepreneur Marketing System
This website and blogging system takes things up a couple notches. You get a WordPress based website that can be turned into a membership site.
As part of this network you already start off with an incredible Alexa ranking (so you appeal better to Google and rank easier).
The system includes hosting, and you get many plugins that would normally would normally add up the total package price to $1400 if you bought things on your own.
On top of that, you get access to Optimize Press on request, and your own autoresponder (keep in mind even at the very low end GetResponse is $15/month for only 100 leads).
You get all of this for only $35/month (free for the first 21 days).
I still haven’t created the setup videos for this blog yet, but it is a WordPress website so you can look for tutorials on YouTube for now. Otherwise you can contact me about having it setup for you.
Step 4 – Start Blogging
That’s right… get blogging! Start making progress creating content. Content creation is the best way to make money from blogging. To help you along here, I made up a list of blog posts that cover what to blog about:
Step 5 – Syndication
The fourth and final step in how to make money from blogging that I want to cover in this blog post is what to do after your blog has been created.
