How to Control Thoughts with the Silva Method
It’s estimated we have 12,000 to 50,000 thoughts a day.
Ninety-five percent of these thoughts are repeated thoughts and reflect the mindset or beliefs we hold. And of those 50,000 thoughts, some estimate as high as 70% of our thoughts are negative.
Even if you practice meditation or consider yourself a pretty happy, easy going person, there can be the tendency to dwell in the past or the future, obsessing about mistakes we might have made, battling guilt, planning ahead or worrying. Many of these 95% are repeated thoughts and reflect the mindset and beliefs we hold.
So every thought ..every one.. All 50,000 affect your life and affect your experience.
If you dwell on something long enough with your thoughts it will become your mindset and your mindset in turn governs your actions, which lead to your results in life. In short, if you have a mindset that limits your potential, then you will likely get limited results in your life.
If our thoughts are our experience why do we repeat the same negative thoughts over and over throughout the day?
Why don’t we choose to think better thoughts? And therefore get better experiences?
Do you ever feel like you can’t control your thoughts and they lead to outbursts of anger and frustration? Asking yourself “Why is this happening or “What did I do to bring this about?”
Reframe Your Questions
What if instead you ask “Where is this in me?” (“Where is the anger in me?” “Where is the betrayal in me?”). By asking these questions, you become one with it instead of maintaining it as something separate “outside” yourself. There is no projection onto someone outside of you and you discover there is only YOU.
And YOU are connected to everyone.
And the good news is within all of this there is a higher power that is always there. If you still struggle to control your mind, don’t try. Just realize it is in you and then surrender to it and ask your higher power to help you and have faith in that higher power. If you can’t have faith in a higher power then ask your higher power to help you with that too. This will help to keep you in a higher level of energy overall and you won’t be as susceptible to the ups and downs of your external environment, and for those occasional times when there is the perfect storm of fatigue, frustrating and fear.To take control of your thought currents here are a couple of helpful tips from the Silva method.

Take a moment to pause relax take a deep breath and a moment of silence and say to yourself mentally:
- “Relax- What’s my outcome?’
- Visualize the desired outcome
- Create an action plan
- Begin to movie in that direction.
