It’s not uncommon.  Most people who do social media marketing don’t really know how to do it effectively.

And one of the things they miss is… VIDEO!

If you’re going to have a thriving social media marketing strategy it should include video, especially on Facebook.  Social media is where a lot of activity is going on, and that is also the go to place for online marketing.

That’s why today I’m going to talk about how to manage social media accounts using an effective video marketing strategy.

How to Make An Effective Video Marketing Strategy

Video is extremely powerful.

You have YouTube as a powerful tool for promoting your brand through content marketing.  And Facebook now is trying to become the video platform of choice, and have given “preferential treatment” to video content in what shows in the feed.

Many people prefer to use video to learn things instead of reading.

And video can be a LOT more fun than traditional content.

That’s why you need to use video in your social media marketing strategy.

How Long Should The Video Be?

Ok, if you are like me you probably have a short tension span.

And so really do most people.

As a society we have grown accustomed to fast information.  And so if a video drones on and on… if it’s not filled with valuable information that rivets the audience (and most video doesn’t…) you’ll quickly start losing them after a minute or so.

That means that you should endeavor to keep your video between 1 to 3 minutes in length.  Any more than that then you better have something that is going to compel the audience to stay on.

That’s why I try to keep my video around a couple minutes and break it up into segments.

The cool thing is that when you do that then you can create a LOT more content in the same period of time, and share it to get more traffic.

When you have your video content, it’s time to promote.

  1. Upload it to YouTube.
  2. Upload it to Facebook.  Check out this article on the best video size for Facebook.
  3. Upload it to Dailymotion.
  4. Share it on Twitter.
  5. Share it on LinkedIn.
  6. Chop it down into 1 minute segments and post on Instagram.
  7. Syndicate by posting links to YouTube on Pinterest.
  8. Create a blog post around it and embed the video on the blog from YouTube (which also ads link juice to the YouTube video).  I then put a link to the blog post towards the top of the video description.
  9. Email a link to either the YouTube video, or better yet your blog post, to your email list.  Alternately instead of writing a unique blog post you can use Speachpad to transcribe the video very accurately to text (takes about a week) and create a blog post with that text.

You can see, there are a lot of things you can do with a video.  Don’t feel limited to this list because there are a lot of other things you can do with the video.

Are you looking for the best video size for Facebook and YouTube?

Most of the time people just upload their YouTube video directly to Facebook.  That works… but you can do better.

I have something to share with you that will help you get better results, especially with your Facebook video.

Best Video Size for Facebook and YouTube

In the following video I talk about video size for Facebook vs. YouTube.

YouTube Videos

Let’s start with the relatively easy one.

YouTube videos are typically in landscape (1280×720).  Most smartphones and video cameras do this size without much in the way of having to do anything special.

If you have something more narrow, then YouTube just puts black lines on each side of the video to help fill up the space.

Facebook Videos

Let’s start off with Facebook by stating that trying to put a YouTube link into a Facebook post will give you less reach than actually uploading the video directly into Facebook.

Why?

Facebook wants to keep on you Facebook.  So make sure you upload your video directly to Facebook.

Now the thing is, most people will take the same video they made for YouTube and upload that to Facebook too.  I used to do that too… but you’re missing out on a big opportunity.

As the video above illustrates, when you make a square video for Facebook you actually have a better change of grabbing the casual Facebook scrollers attention.

What Is the Best Video Size for Facebook and YouTube

The key is to now make sure that when you create video for YouTube that you have to factor in that you’ll be cutting off the edges to make square video for Facebook.  I made sure that any captions and post editing effects would work well when the edges are cut.

Then you can cut the edges off after the video is COMPLETELY edited for YouTube.  That way you only create the video once.

I use Camtasia to edit my video, but you can also use something Premier Pro to edit the video after you created it in something like iMovie.

Instagram Video

If your video is less than 60 seconds, then you can also upload your square Facebook video to Instagram.

Now with the effort of making one YouTube video, with a little editing and foresight, you can now have very effective video for Facebook and Instagram.

Final Thoughts On What Is the Best Video Size

Facebook and YouTube can be a powerful platform to market your business.  I especially love using video to market with on Facebook.  That’s why it’s so important to me to use the most effective video format on Facebook.

Today I’m going to talk about how to make money with video blogs.

How to Make Money with Video Using Sponsorship and Video Ads

Platforms like YouTube allow you to monetize your videos.  You can allow these platforms to promote “commercials” or ads before or as overlays on your videos, and you can get paid by the click on the ad.  

With YouTube you just need to setup monetization to get the ads started.  YouTube has you set up an AdSense account, and then you activate monetization.  Then you can choose which videos have monetization, and which ones don’t.

Build Rapport

Video is a great way to build rapport with your audience.  First they get to see you, and after watching a few videos they get the feeling that they already know you.  That helps lower buyer resistance.  

With video you can also encourage comments and questions, and you can answer them to build up a conversation.  Your viewers will see that you are willing to interact with them, which encourage them to come back and interact more.  You’ll start to learn what they like, and what they don’t like, about your videos.  You may also get questions that you can turn into material for future videos.

How to Make Money with Video Using Calls to Action

First of all.. what is a call to action?

Well it is simply where you tell your audience or reader to do something.  

This action can be to comment below, like a post, share your content, friend you, click a button, etc.  

Just like in written content, or copy, you can include a call to action in your video.  These can be told verbally and/or by putting pop ups or annotations to tell your audience to do something.  Some of these can even be hyperlinked to take them to something, like a place to follow your video channel.  

Be sure to include links towards the top of the video descriptions if you want your viewer to click a link.  Don’t make them have to open up the description to see the link.  

Video and calls to action is a proven method to increase sales!

I talk over and over again about blogging, and its importance.

But what I haven’t done enough talking about is video blogging, or Vlogging.  You can actually do the equivalent of creating a blog post by creating a 2-3 minute video.

And there are lots of reasons why you should create video.

In this blog post I’ll be listing out the two main reasons why you should use video to promote yourself online.

Reason #1 to Use Video to Promote Yourself: You Get Your Face Out There

Video give you a chance to connect with your audience.  They get to know you, know you are real.  As your audience gets to know you, it help build the trust you need in order to get them to buy into whatever you are trying to promote.

Be as real as possible in your video.  Try to relax, and be yourself.  That is how you will connect with your audience… is when you be yourself.  You are not going to win over everyone (and you shouldn’t want to).  Instead connect with people that will naturally connect with you.  That will help you build that relationship with your audience.

Relationship building is very important.

So create as many video as you can.  At a *minimum* create at least one video a week.  Keep your video to 2-3 minutes initially because your audience won’t initially know you, and they won’t have the patience to sit through a 1 hour webinar.

Reason #2 to Use Video to Promote Yourself: Great Way to Be Found On the Internet

When you create a video, there are so many ways you can use it.

Load it up to YouTube.  YouTube has its own search engine.  When you add in Google, you have a much better chance of being found online.  If you do some video SEO (search engine optimization) you will get lots of traffic… but SEO is a topic for another blog post (or series of blog posts).

You can also upload the same video to Facebook.  When you imbed a video directly into Facebook, it appears there is a much better chance to get likes and audience interaction.

I am not sure the reason why, but I have seen it over and over again.

But you are still not done with that video.  Now you can take the YouTube website address and imbed the video into your blog as part of a blog post (like this video).  The video helps keep the audience on the blog longer, which helps how Google vies your website.

Now that you have it uploaded to YouTube and Facebook, and imbedded the video into your blog, now you can link the different posts to each other, and ultimately pointing to your main website.  This help get traffic to you blog, but it also helps create backlinks between the various videos.

Wrap Up on Video to Promote Yourself.

As you can see, video can be very powerful in building up your business.  Video is “ever green”, meaning that it is effectively out there forever.  That video will always be out there helping you by making you money.

How to Determine a Target Audience for Your Blog or Online Content.

Be More Successful by Defining Your Audience Avatar

So you want to start an online business.

You already know that you want to create content like blog posts, video, or pod casts because they help get your message out, and attract your perfect customer.

And you even have an idea what the first few topics will be.

But who are you going to be talking to?

The better you understand your ideal audience, the faster your business will grow. Online content marketers often struggle to define their target market, or simply set their sights too broadly.

Your content and products might appeal to a large group of people, but it doesn’t make sense to try to market to everyone. If you market to everyone, you market to no one.

Forget trying to appeal to the masses.

Pick a target audience, or avatar, and focus on knowing who that target audience is.

Your avatar represents a whole group of people that you identified as target audience. When you communicate with your target audience, you always talk to your avatar. This means you always communicate in first person, like you are talking only to your avatar.  This way they feel more connected to you.

All the content you create online should be designed around your avatar.  Your content should speak directly to your avatar, which makes it the most valuable marketing tool for your online business.

Let’s Start Defining Your Audience Avatar

Who has Already Enjoyed Your Content?

If you are already creating content, get a feel for who your present audience. If you use differentiating links and setup Google Analytics, you should know if you are visitors are coming from Facebook, YouTube, etc., and some basic demographics.

You can also learn about your audience by conducting surveys. Or even look at your e-mail autoresponder statistics (often you can also find out the customer country when you look at the autoresponder member information).

Create Basic Demographics for Your Audience Avatar

When defining your target audience, start evaluating the basic information first such as their:

  • Age
  • Location
  • Gender
  • Income
  • Education
  • Occupation
  • Ethnicity
  • Marital Status
  • # of Children

By completing this list you will have a head start on defining your target audience.

Defining Your Audience Psychographics

Now let’s start thinking about the personality and psychographics of your target audience.  Psychographics are the personal characteristics of your audience, and they include:

  • Personality
  • Attitudes
  • The clothes worn
  • Values
  • Interests and hobbies
  • Lifestyles
  • Where they hang out
  • General behavior
  • Publications that they read

By this point you should have a pretty good idea who your target audience is, and what they like to do. You should know what they like to do on the weekends, where they vacation, where they shop, what they finances are like, where they like to get coffee, etc.

You should also have a very good idea what your avatar’s triggers are that will get their interest; what keeps them up at night, and what they are hungry to know more about.

And by now you should start feeling that your avatar is someone you know well… which leads to…

Give a Name to Your Avatar

Since you know the age range, gender and ethnicity of your target audience, do some research and determine what common names those people should have… and then pick one.

Name your avatar a common name that best personifies what you have already described.

For instance younger audiences may have names such as Ashley, Tyler, Brandon, or Megan. Your older audiences they may have names such as John, Betty, Donald, or Margaret.

Adding a name to your avatar makes it become even more real, helping you connect with it even better.

Defining Your Audience Is An Important, but Ongoing Process

Creating your avatar might feel a bit strange at the start but it’s actually a lot of fun.

They are like your marketing campaign buddies that you can turn to every time you are creating online content. Visualize yourself looking at your content from your audience avatar’s perspective and take into account what are their interests and triggers to get their emotionally involved in what you are creating.

So now that you know the secret to successful marketing, all you need to do is get thinking and spend couple of hours considering your avatar.

Keep the avatar in mind anytime you are communicating with your target audience, whether it be via ads, blog post, videos, social media…and you will notice it’s easier to talk to one person then a big group.

Don’t forget that you should keep revisiting your avatar’s description and tweak it as you learn more about who you are attracting to your content. Your avatar will evolve over time, and get more powerful.

No matter what you decide to do to build your online business: blogging, video, and/or pod casting, you will struggle at the beginning.  That is part of the process.  Don’t expect to get it right immediately… it took us about a year to get where we are today, and we still have a far way to go.

Lol… in fact I commented to Bren after watching this video the first time I realized there were things I should have done differently.  Do you know what I did?  Nothing.  Well not actually nothing, but I didn’t reshoot the video.  I kept it as is, and made some notes on what to improve for next time.

Don’t be afraid to make errors, because you will no matter what you end up doing.  The key is that you started moving and making things happen.  You can always correct things once you get going.

How to Make Videos – What is a Pattern Interrupt

Videos are a very effective way of attraction marketing… they allow your audience to get to know you, become familiar with you, and be entertained by you, while you give them some information… and eventually your audience will buy from you. Creating YouTube videos can be as easy as shooting a video with your iPhone and uploading it to your computer…. so there is really no technical challenge.  In fact it can be easier and less time consuming than writing a blog.  Personally I prefer to imbed videos into my blogs to appeal to a much broader audience.

Often it is difficult to get the attention of you audience… most of your audience will lose interest in your video shortly after they start it because they are distracted and probably have already have another webpage over the video while they multitask.  That is why it is important to have a “pattern interrupt” within 11 seconds of starting the video.

This video showed how to make videos using a pattern interrupt. In it, the video discusses how to use either a naturally changing scene like driving.  But it could be a beach shore with waves, birds, animals; or a park with any number of things changing in the background.

A pattern interrupt can also be a disturbance within the video, or something completely unrelated to call the attention of the viewer.  This pattern interrupt has to occur within 11 seconds of the start of the video otherwise you are likely to lose a large percentage of  your audience.  There is no point in having a video played by someone if they don’t pay attention to the video… therefore it is key to get their attention right away.

You should also try to keep most of  your videos between 1 and 3 minutes in length.  The attention span of the majority of your audience is very small and if you want to keep them long enough to give your call to action then you have to keep it to within that short length.
