Are you looking to get started with your own business using the internet… but are hesitant to get started?

These are all common challenges for a lot of people trying to get started with their own business online.  That’s why I want to share some tips on how to start your own business online.

Steps On How to Start a Business Using The Internet

Step 1.  The first step is to decide on what type of business you want to start building. The cool thing about internet businesses is that they can offer products, services or a combination of both.  With a “virtual storefront” you can promote your own products or sell products from others using affiliate links. By using tools such as email, web conference and collaborative project management programs you can provide a host of services that include coaching, consulting, accounting or freelance specialties.  So determine your business’s offering… what you want to sell… and develop a plan for delivering it — via download, mobile phone ap, “good old fashion” mail, etc.

Step 2. You need a website… start by outlining the details of your website on paper (or I prefer PowerPoint) before building it online.  Its very easy for websites to become disorganized so a little planning goes a long way. Make sure you keep your customers in mind as you decide what information will be on the site and how it can be organized so it’s easy to access.  Most sites include a home page and then branches to other pages organized by category, such as type of product or business information.  Take a look at “competing” sites to borrow ideas (make sure you only borrow ideas because ultimately you want your site to look unique).

Step 3.  Obtain needed permits and licenses to operate your business.  For example I only need an LLC for my business, but your business may require additional requirements.  Check with your local government business office about what’s required in your area.  Make sure you ask about filling out a doing-business-as statement if your business name is different from your given name. If you’re going to be selling tangible goods (and not through an affiliate link from another company), you’ll need a sales tax permit to charge sales tax to customers from your own state.

Step 4. You also need to consider having a hosted site vs. a self-hosted site. A hosted site means that your blog is created by someone else, and is hosted and the site maintenance managed by someone else with many other blogs. A self-hosted site means that you can use the blogging themes, fonts and other applications. Both blogs may have your own custom URL mapped to the blog platform. A self-hosted blog may incur much more start-up costs.

Step 5. Purchase a website domain name (the name for your website address… for example I have the domain www.mikemarko.com). Use a domain name that matches your business name.

Step 6.  Select a payment processing services to accept credit cards and other virtual payments through your website. If your website is using a shopping cart system, check the system needs to make sure it’s compatibility with the payment processor you want to use.  Common payment processors include PayPal and Stripe.

Step 7.  Build and launch your business website. If you don’t have a clue on how to build a website (or just don’t have the time) you may want to hire someone to build the site. This is the most expensive option but its also the choice that can help ensure your have a professional-looking site that works. Once your site is up and running, test the pages and features by visiting all of the pages and checking that shopping cart and payment links work.

Step 8.  Market your small business website. The Internet has millions of websites… and without promoting your website then it gets lost  like a needle in a haystack. To standout, you need to develop a marketing plan that lets consumers know you exist. The first step is to identify your target market and where they can be found online.  Then you develop the marketing copy (text) and even video that will show how your product or service solves your market’s problems. Successful Internet marketing strategies also include search engine optimization and submission, writing and distributing articles and social networking. There is a lot involved in marketing your business online… that’s why a lot of businesses hire our services to help them with their marketing online.

Final Thoughts On How to Start Your Own Business Online

Follow these steps to on how to start your own business online.  But don’t wait until everything is figured out.  Follow each step I outlined and get started right away… you don’t have to know it all before you get started.

Remember if you are struggling with growing your business: we can help.

How to Sell Big Ticket Items Using a Product Value Ladder

“How to Sell Big Ticket Items Using a Product Value Ladder” written by Mike Marko.

Are you struggling with how to sell big ticket items online?

I know, I struggled for quite a while myself with how to sell big ticket items.  It can be intimidating at first… you may think that it will be challenging to sell, and that it would be easier to sell cheaper products and services.

That is far from the truth.  It is much easier to make an income from being able to sell big ticket items than lots of smaller ticket items.

But there is a method to being able to sell big ticket items… and that’s what I would like to discuss today.

How to Sell Big Ticket Items Using a Product Value Ladder

In the following video I talk about using a product value ladder.

[jwplayer player=”1″ mediaid=”20700″]

As you can see in the video, using a product value ladder can be used to help sell big ticket items.  The product value ladder can be a important way of working customers and clients up to the big ticket items.

How to Sell Big Ticket Items Using a Product Value Ladder

Let’s talk in great detail about the different axis of the table.

Product Value Ladder – Cost

When you start from left and go right on the Product Value Ladder chart above, you begin with something that is very low in cost (or even free).  This is the “entry” level position in your product value ladder.  From there, as the customer/client goes right the products and services increase in cost.

For example, I recently created an Instagram Marketing Mastery course.  It was a natural progression from our blog and YouTube channel free training for those looking for more information.  From there we offer more advanced training products, group mentoring, and personal one-on-one mentoring and consulting.

This creates a natural progression in the range of services you provide for one level of competency.  Your client can then either progress naturally as needed from left to right, or take a “shortcut” and jump to a higher level of service.  The option is there for them.  This gives customers more than one way to approach your big ticket items for consideration.

Take a look at your own products and services, and see if you can find the natural progression in price for similar products.  Create a similar chart.  You may find that you may have to add additional offerings to help with the progression to sell big ticket items.

MLSP Review From A Non-Affiliate: Get The Facts on My Lead System Pro

Product Value Ladder – Brand

Not only is it valuable to have a natural progression in ascending product and services costs, but you should also consider consider what you have to offer as your customers completely one core competency and want more.

In the example above we give a shortened example of the services we provide.  Starting with Instagram Training, we go up in competency to SEO Training, Consulting/Mentoring, and then Done for You Services.  As the clients build their business we offer more… growing the level of our services as our customer’s needs grow.  And as the core competency level increases, so does the cost of that product or service.

This can also be done for educational products, physical products, etc. Take a look at your products and services and see if you can arrange them in ascending order like I did.  This exercise help illustrate to use that even more competency levels are needed in our business.  You may find the same.

How Do You Use The Product Value Ladder

Once you have your product value ladder created, you can start putting together a series of marketing funnels to help promote your products and services.  The product value ladder will make this much easier.  It may take some time, but the effort will be well worth it.

Final Thoughts On How to Sell Big Ticket Items Using a Product Value Ladder

As I mentioned, using a product value ladder can help you sell big ticket items.  Be sure to go through this exercise as soon as possible. You may find that with some minor changes and rearranging how you offer them, you will start increasing your ability to sell big ticket items.

If you want help in planning your product value ladder, feel free to contact me and we can talk about how we can help.

6 Online Marketing Business Myths That Need To Be Busted

“6 Online Marketing Business Myths That Need To Be Busted” written by Bren Koger.

There is a lot to learn in online marketing and things change pretty quickly. In the world of social media and blogging, it’s hard to know who to listen to and it seems like some of the same information gets posted and regurgitated over and over again.

Shedding a light on “common knowledge”  is a great way to break through to the next level.

Here are my 6 online marketing myths busted.

I’m not in it for the money

I understand  the philosophy that when you do what you love and provide a service to people the money will follow. I believe this to be true, but you ARE running a business and if you’re not in a business to generate money then I would consider starting a charitable foundation instead.

Imperfect action is better than no action.

I actually believe this to be true, but only to a certain point. If your website and blog look unprofessional and you are using the excuse that I’m just taking imperfect action- you are missing an opportunity to catch people’s attention.

People do judge a book by it’s cover online.

I actually had someone tell me recently “I would be interested in their services but I cant get past their outdated website”

Invest In a professional looking design for your website and banners. Invest in editing software like Grammarly to check spelling and grammar. It’s well worth it.

Surround yourself with like-minded people

I agree with this too, but only to a point. In your online business, you should never be the smartest person on the hangout. Surrounding yourself with people who can teach you what they know is a way to add rocket fuel to your business.

Spend 30 minutes a day on mindset.

I believe this to be true, but if you’re only listening to motivational audios and not learning about your business and marketing, you will not get to the next level. Spend just as much time learning about your industry and your business so that people see you as an expert in your niche.

I need to get everyone and everybody to my website

High traffic doesn’t always convert to higher sales. Even if you have hundreds of visitors per day to your site, you aren’t necessarily going to make any money from them. Get very specific on the type of audience you want to attract and focusing on getting them to your site. This will turn into more sales.

I need to be under a successful leader

I get this; especially since we have been “homeless” several times in our MLM company, but there is not one way to make money and what works for one person may not work for you.

Create a plan that is unique to your market and keep tweaking it until it works. Learn from several different styles and come up with your own business plan.

This is a great list of tips for success in online marketing and also a way to look even deeper into some common ways of thinking.

Never stop question the status quo.

The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity.

Importance of Multiple Sources of Leads

“Importance of Multiple Sources of Leads” written by Mike Marko.

Are you struggling to get leads?

Don’t worry, many people do.

And when you finally get something to work, it may work for a few months or even a year, then suddenly try up as new ad rules change, Google changes an algorithm, or simply buying habits change.

Therefore today’s video blog post is about the importance of multiple sources of leads.

VIDEO: Multiple Sources of Leads

Watch the video as I talk about the importance of having multiple sources of leads.

[jwplayer player=”1″ mediaid=”15965″]

Why Have Multiple Sources of Leads?

The risk of having all your eggs in one basket is that if you rely on only one lead source then if that goes away, you have nothing and you lose your business momentum. I know… it happened to us.

That’s why it’s important to have multiple sources

How Many Sources of Leads Are Needed?

My recommendation is to have one free source, one paid source, and of course your blog.

Some examples of free sources of leads include:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Instagram
  • Pinterest
  • Organic search traffic from Bing or Google
  • LinkedIn

Some examples of paid sources of leads include:

Facbook PPC (Pay Per Click)

  • Solo Ads
  • Twitter PPC
  • Instagram PPC
  • Bing PPC
  • Google Ads/PPC

And those are just off the top of my head.

The Importance of Blogging

I can have an entire series of blog posts about the importance of blogging.  Blogging is an essential part of making any method of getting leads work efficiently.  The blog is a great way to capture leads, to help built trust, demonstrate that you are a expert, and help with the overall sales conversion process.

Also over time, you’ll start getting organic search traffic results if you at least spend some time doing keyword research for those blog posts.

After You Master Your Paid or Free Method

Once you have become very good at either your free or paid method of getting leads, then you can consider adding another method.  Slowly add onto your lead sources.  My recommendation is don’t in the end focus the majority of your time on more than five method total because you stop being as effective in getting leads.

Final Thoughts on Multiple Sources of Leads

Learn from our mistake… build up multiple leads sources from the very beginning.  That way you can help ensure a robust flow of leads that will help you weather more difficult times.

How to Determine Your Target Audience Profile for Your Blog

“How to Determine Your Target Audience Profile for Your Blog” written by Bren Koger.

It may seem logical that If you’re pleasing as many people as possible with your marketing message you would get a bigger following and thus more sales.

In today’s business marketing it’s actually the other way around.

If you’re marketing to everyone you please no-one. In other words, It’s OK to alienate people.

It’s OK if they don’t like your content.

We don’t want to target everyone, instead maximize our message toward those most likely to become our audience.

What Is Your Target Audience Profile?

You might have started your business with an idea of who that might be by asking yourself a few of the following questions:

Where is my target audience located? City? Rural?

What is their age? Is it a college student, adult?

What is the gender of my audience? Is it male or female?

What is the income level of my potential customer? What can they afford?

What is their family situation? Are they married, widowed, divorced, college graduate?

Once you decided who that might be it’s not uncommon to have to re-focus and revisit your targeting, especially if it was not, laser-sharp, clearly identified in the beginning stages of  your business.

Free Bootcamp Training Mini-Course

Reexamine Your Target Audience Profile

The power of your brand relies on your ability to craft a marketing message that will convert prospects into customers. That is why re-defining your target market will help to strengthen your overall effectiveness.

If you’ve started with a general idea of your target audience and waited to see who responded.  It’s time to get a little more specific. Otherwise you will never be able to differentiate yourself from the competition.

Look at the Target Audience Profile of the Competition

Check out other content that is comparable to yours and look at their profiles to see who the main followers and potential buyers are.

You might think based on your age and gender that you are appealing to a certain type of person, or you chose a certain target audience, but you might be surprised by who your actual target audience is. It isn’t always who you think it’s going to be or who it ends up appealing to.

For example in The HBO TV show, Girls, despite the fact that it is made by a twenty-something girls and is about twenty-something girls, it seems like the bulk of people watching the half-hour comedy aren’t, in fact, twenty-something girls, they’re men. So it helps to know who your actual demographic is.

Network With Other Successful Marketers

Work the connections you’ve found to successful marketers in the same vein as yours by appealing to those followers.

Check out what is working for them by subscribing to their lists and following their pages on social media

Re-examine the goals you’ve set for yourself and analyze the products and/or services you offer. Think about how your products or services fulfill a need or solve a problem for your potential customer. Also, what sets you apart?

How do you differ from others in your industry—what makes you stand out? Develop a catch phrase or pictue that makes you unique.

Determine Your Target Audience Profile for Your Blog - social media

Once You Know Your Target Audience

Identify Where People Matching Your Target Audience Profile Hang Out…  Then Be There.

Know which social media sites you’re target audience hangs out and then steer yourself in that direction.

If you’re targeting women use Pinterest. They are 5 times more likely to use it than men. Highly educated, affluent women.

City dwellers use twitter more than rural.

Blacks and Hispanics use Instagram more than whites.

Instagram users are more female than male, but this is changing.

More 45-54 year age bracket on twitter and this demographic is growing.

A large percentage of Facebook users are using mobile devices and this will be even more so in the future.

YouTube reaches more 18-34 age range than any cable network.

LinkedIn for professionals is growing but not a lot of people active.

Among 18-34 year olds Snapchat in more popular than Twitter.

Social Media Sites and Blog Traffic

From our experience, the social media sites that send the most traffic to blogs in general are:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Google+
  • Pinterest
  • LinkedIn

Ongoing Effort in Forming Your Target Audience Profile

The work doesn’t end after you’ve identified your target audience. Things are constantly changing; from changing demographics and algorithms to new social media sites and tools. It’s important to stay current on market trends and your competition. It’s also important to see if and how you and your customers evolve over time.

Improve Your Business Using The Psychology of Color

Improve Your Business Using The Psychology of Color” written by Bren Koger.

Can some CTA (Call to Action) colors make your offer convert better than others?

Color in Advertising

The colors you choose could greatly affect your sales and productivity. For that reason, A lot of testing and research has gone into what colors work best and why and It’s not as simple as just choosing the most popular color.

Color in Advertising for Google

Even Google demonstrates their use of the psychology of color. Did you know they tested 4,000 shades of blue prior to picking their button?

Psychology of Color

Evoking Emotions with Color

Different colors evoke different emotions so it stand to reason that there would be many studies and A/B tests out there on which colors work best based on the psychology of color. Here is a study from Unbouce:

Improve Your Business Using The Psychology of Color

Cashvertising

Even though according to the book Cashvertising, by Drew Eric Whitman, people prefer these three colors more than others:

  1. Blue
  2. Red
  3. Green

Further Study

Several test studies show orange/red is actually the most popular CTA button.

And red converts better. It wins in studies for conversion rates up against both blue and green.

Improve Your Business Using The Psychology of Color

This makes sense since it is a warm, vibrant and flamboyant color.

It is energy combined with fun.

In the psychology of color it means adventure, optimism, self-confidence and sociability. It makes people want to buy.

Orange vitalizes, inspires and creates enthusiasm.

As you may have noticed it is not bright neon orange but a salmon, coral, terra-cotta usually combined with the classic gray… which brings me to contrast.

Color Alone Isn’t Everything

You need to not only understand the traits, qualities and mood the color evokes, but how it fits in with your target audience and coordinates with the rest of the page.

Contrasting the button with the background color can be even more important than the color itself. It must be prominent and easy to see. If your background color does not support this, then having the right color button is not going to help you.

The right color choice for your call-to-action buttons depends on the other colors on your website. Orange may stand out in one color scheme, or disappear in another.

As a rule, bright, contrasting colors that stand out from a contrasting background tend to convert better

Studies About the Psychology of Color

The color of the button alone does not guarantee conversion. It’s about placement on the page contrasting color and complimentary color.

It must get the attention of your potential customer.

What is even more important than color is having a button that is prominent and easy to find.

The color of the text and the hierarchy of the page all come into play.

Congruency through out the webpage is important too. If you have earthy tones on your website a bright orange button may seem out of place.

Color is something to take into consideration, but if the rest of your page is not a strong enough contrast, not a complimentary color, or not congruent the color of your CTA button is not going to matter.

The colors you choose can greatly affect your sales and productivity.

Final Take Away Psychology of Color

The bottom line…Always use your own judgment. Would you trust your offer based on the colors you see?

How to Start An Online Business with the IPAS2 System and Kalatu Blog | Day 1” written by Mike Marko.

So you want to learn “how to start an online business”.  You probably have your own reasons and goals for starting an online business.

Well in this series of blog posts, we’ll be teaching you how to start an online business using very actionable steps to help you along the way.  Learn from our success (and lessons learned) so that you can get on the path of financial freedom faster.

Now depending on whether you have an online business already or not, some of these steps may not be directly applicable to you.  That is ok, because as long as you can apply most of these steps (and steps in follow up lessons) you’ll be well underway in growing your online business.

Please keep revisiting this series of blog posts.  We plan to keep improving this series to make sure that they are up to date, and provide you the best possible value.

A Word Before We Start

Before we get to starting your own online business, I want to make sure we are clear on one thing: this is not a get rich quick scheme.  What we are going to talk about are proven techniques to build an online business for the long term.  You may not make money tomorrow, you may not even make money in your first week, but with persistence and consistence action you will build a successful business.

It is unfortunate that many people quit before they start getting their first wins.  They don’t realize that they are only one small tweak, or adjustment, away from making money online.  Just like the story from the book, Think & Grow Rich, you could be three feet from gold and not even know it.

The trick is to keep at it.

And put in the effort daily.

Ok, enough of this… let’s get to the good stuff.

Free Bootcamp Training Mini-Course

Day 1 of How to Start An Online Business

So you made your decision to get started!  Great!  So first thing’s first in learning how to start an online business.

Starting an Online Business with the Right Core Product

Bren and I looked at a lot of programs before picking the IPAS2 system as the core product for us.  When you combine IPAS2 with the profit maximizers from Empower Network, you have the perfect 1-2 combination for building an online business.

Now you can use follow these steps and use them for most online businesses, but first make sure that they have a well tested system like IPAS 2, complete with a “tripwire” product like the $7 trial to get people comfortable buying products from you.  You also need to make sure your core product has funded proposals that help fund your advertising, like the IPAS2 6 Figures Shortcutts, the paid monthly IPAS2 membership fees, and the Empower Network Kalatu blog.  All these products really help with building your business.

Then you use the more expensive profit maximizers as your income generating products.

If you don’t have the funds to get all the profit maximizers, you can still make money with the other products.  Just make sure you reinvest your money back in to get the other profit maximizers to help grow your income faster.  The sooner you get all the profit maximizers the sooner you can start building a larger income.

Orientation Videos

Your core products most likely have orientation videos.  I recommend watch these videos as soon as you can.  Make sure you can watch them uninterrupted because these will be key to making sure you get off on the right foot.  With IPAS2, there are 5 Success Formula videos you need to watch before you do anything else.

Setup and Configuration

Your core product will probably have a setup wizard, or some sort of configuration you need to do to set things up.  With IPAS2 there is a setup wizard you must complete before you start any marketing activities.

One of the key setup with any core product is to get your autoresponder setup.  The emails you collect for your leads is your most valuable asset online.  That it is very important to get the autoresponder configured.  In IPAS2, this is all covered in the setup wizard.  Once you get GetResponse, they will have you setup a lead list and a buyers list.  The lead list are the people who have only expressed an interest in your offer but haven’t bought, and the buyers list… well obviously these are the people that at the very least bought the trial.

Now if you are not using IPAS2 you need to make sure that you have your email autoresponder setup.  If you don’t have one, check out my review of two very popular autoresponders: Aweber and GetResponse.  These are key to managing your email list, and helping you to both send out a predetermined series of emails to new subscribers, and to broadcast newsletters to your lists.

Before you start promoting your link, test to make sure everything is working properly.  Use your own email to register using your capture pages.  Once you enter in your information:

  • Look see if the system sent you an email once you subscribed
  • Check in GetResponse to see if you show up as a lead
  • Check your backoffice (if you have one like IPAS2 does) and see if a lead has been registered.

If they all look good, then you are ready to start promoting your link.

Here are a few blog posts on emailing your leads (we’ll cover more of this in a future lessons):

Setting Up Your Social Media

How to Start An Online Business with Social MediaWe have already covered a lot about how to build an online business in today’s lesson, but we aren’t done yet.

Hopefully you have already some social media accounts: Facebook, maybe Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, YouTube, etc.  If not, then you really need to at least build accounts for all of these.  I understand that some people don’t like social media… but unfortunately this is the way things are going.  If you don’t have a presence on social media you are really hurting your online business results.

Next I want you to start subscribing to some Facebook groups.  The types of groups you should subscribe to will depend on the niche of your core products.  IPAS2 and the profit maximizers fall under the make money online niche.  That means you can find good groups to join by using search terms like “MLM“, “make money online“, and “internet marketing“.

Be sure to only subscribe to five groups at a time, and then wait 2-3 hours before doing that again.  You don’t want to join too many groups all at once otherwise you can go to “Facebook Jail”.

That’s It For Now On How to Start An Online Business

I know we covered a lot of ground today, but I want you to get a good head start.  The sooner you can get past these the sooner we can get to money making activities.

If you are done all of this, and want to jump ahead feel free to click the button below (the button will be activated once the new day’s exercise is done).

How to Start An Online Business with the IPAS2 System and Kalatu Blog | Day 2” written by Mike Marko.

So you are starting to learn “how to start an online business”.  You probably have your own reasons and goals for starting an online business.

In this series of blog posts, we’ll be teaching you how to start an online business using very actionable steps to help you along the way.  Learn from our success (and lessons learned) so that you can get on the path of financial freedom faster.

If you missed Day 1 of this training blog post, then click here to go to Day 1.

Like we said in Day 1, depending on whether you have an online business already or not, some of these steps may not be directly applicable to you.  That’s ok.  As long as you can use most of these steps you’ll be well underway in growing your online business.

Please keep revisiting this series of blog posts.  We plan to keep improving this series to make sure that they are up to date, and provide you the best possible value.

A Reminder Before We Start Today

Before we get on with Day 2 with starting your own online business, I want to make sure we are clear on one thing: this isn’ a get rich quick scheme.  We’ll be talking about several proven techniques to build an online business.  You may not make money tomorrow, you may not even make money in your first week, but with persistence and consistence action you will build a successful business.

Unfortunately a lot of people quit before they start getting their first wins.  They get that they’re only one small adjustment away from making money online.  Just like the story from the book, Think & Grow Rich, you could be three feet from gold and be completely unaware.

The key is that you have to stick with it, and put in daily effort.

Ok, enough of this… let’s get to the good stuff.

Day 2 of How to Start An Online Business

So you made your decision to get keep going!  Great!  Let’s learn more about how to start an online business.

How to Start An Online Business - MindsetPart 1: Mindset

This step is pretty easy but surprisingly not followed very often, which is why some people fail! If you are are not in the right mindset before you do your marketing it will fail.  Then you’ll always wonder why your marketing is not working like it works for other people.  So just do it and see how quickly your mindset changes into that of a successful entrepreneur.

Section 1 – Listen to the Morning Mindset Call – 9AM EST / 6AM Pacific

Live Call: 9am EST Monday-Friday: 712-432-0900 – Access Code: 565762# If you miss it or can’t make it live dial into the Replay Number when you can:712-432-0990 Access Code: 565762# (Usually up for 23 hours)

If you live overseas, then click here to get onto the mindset calls.

Also, before the call I suggest you fill out this “Major Definite Purpose Sheet” and read it every morning:
Click here to download the Word Doc template if you have not yet!

This is hosted by Paul Hutchings & one of the greatest things to start your day off!

Section 2 – Soak in Knowledge for 15 Minutes a Day (Part Time) 30-60 minutes (Full Time)

We recommend you read or listen to books to help learn more about leadership influence, sales & marketing.  Here are some suggestions we recommend:

>The Secret Code of Success – Noah St. John – Amazon Link
>Secrets of the Millionaire Mind – T Harv Eker – Amazon Link
>The Science of Getting Rich- Wallace D Wattles– Download the eBook here
>Think and Grow Rich – Napoleon Hill– Download the eBook here
>Cashvertising – Drew Eric Whitman – Amazon Link

How to Start An Online Business - List BuildingPart 2: List Building

There are lots of ways to start building your list, but for now we’ll just focus on some basic examples.  I am going to assume you have already tested your autoresponder, setup your social media accounts, and started joining Facebook groups, like we discussed in How to Start An Online Business – Day 1. If you haven’t, then go back and complete Day 1.

Section #1 – Invest in Done-For-You Traffic

This is one of the easiest ways to start eyeballs on your website, generating leads, and making some sales.  You should try to create a marketing budget that you can put into paid traffic every month to help create consistency and momentum.  The best part you can get the traffic without any effort on your part.

There is training in the IPAS2 Gold Members section on how to use traffic brokers.  Here is another traffic broker you can use:  MLM Leads.  If you are not a member of IPAS2 yet, you can check out more details in this IPAS2 Review.

These are a couple of the IPAS2 capture pages that are working really well right now with their traffic. (opt-in rates from 30-50%). You can find your links to this new sales funnel on the Promo Links Page under ‘Giveaway Trial’.

http://ipasgiveaway.com/cp2/?id=
http://ipasgiveaway.com/cp1/?id=

Section #2 – Make Posts In Facebook Groups

Posting in Facebook groups can be done right away in the morning.  That way when people wake up, they see your post on their newsfeed. (we’ll cover posting multiple times per day later on, but start with this). There are a lot of different types of Facebook posts you can make, but the most effective ones are questions that get people to comment and ask you for more information (starting the conversation), or posting proof that the business is working for you or others and asking people to like/comment to get more information about how they can do it too.

You can see some example posts here and model them (don’t copy them exactly… personalize them)

Don’t post to more than five Facebook groups at a time, then wait a few hours before doing it again.

Section #3 – Facebook Chat with 5-10 People (Part Time) 15-20 People (Full Time)

Whether you are first learning how to start an online business, or been doing this for a while, this is the most effective thing you can do if you want to guarantee you’ll get a certain amount of signups each and every day.  Many people take this for granted, but you can get 2-5 signups per day JUST using this method of chatting with people on Facebook and sending them to your website.

You may ask, “why does it work so well?”

It is because people already trust you and can see exactly who you are from your profile.  They also know you’re going to be there to help them if they get started. You can also chat with people you have on other social media sites (LinkedIn, Skype or Google +) the exact same way, and in some cases it’s even more effective because less people are doing it and the people on those sites are more ‘business minded.’

Watch the IPAS2 training on how to chat with people right here under ‘Facebook Marketing Mastery – 2: Facebook Prospecting

How to Start An Online Business - Creating ContentPart 3: Creating Content

The purpose of creating your own content (videos and articles) is to give you something valuable to send your email list.  The new content also helps attract new leads to your business through posting on Facebook and your other social media sites, putting your videos on YouTube, and ranking your blog in the search engines.  When you use your own content, people get to know you better and you begin to build a connection.  We call this “attraction marketing”, and it is how we make 90%+ of our online income.

Section #1 – Pick Your Topic of the Day (or Week)

Even when you are first learning how to start an online business, there are a lot of ways to pick a topic for the day (or week).  If you listen to the mindset call in the first section of today’s exercise, they always have a topic you can cover for the day if you listen in and pay attention.

If that doesn’t work for you, you can also look for articles and videos on subjects that your target audience is interested in.  This can be about entrepreneurship, online marketing, motivation, personal development, and the list goes on.  If you are reading books on these topics (again from the Mindset section… see a theme developing? 🙂 ) then you should have lots to create content about.

For our website at http://brenandmike.influxentrepreneur.info we use the technique of learning something for our business, practicing it, and then teaching what we learned.  That is how we have done most of our blog posts.

If you are using the Kalatu blog, then there is a feature where the blogging platform will help generate blog ideas.  I found it practically extracts blog posts from me when you follow the 21-day challenge.

Section #2 – Create Content (Video, Written Blog Post, or Both)

Now that you have picked a topic, it is time to create some content.

The best content actually has a blog post AND a video, but you can choose to do either one if you don’t have the time.

When creating video, you don’t need fancy equipment or lighting.  Bren and I just use our iPhones.

Just grab your cell phone and record yourself talking about the topic of the day for 2-3 minutes.  Then towards the end tell people if they want to get started in a home business and make some extra money from home, then visit your website (and say the website name).  It’s that easy.  Keep the videos under 3 minutes.

Sure it can be intimidating to create your first few videos, but trust me, each video gets easier and easier.  If you do this every day you’ll be surprised how comfortable you get doing them.

You can convert your video to MP4 using anydvdconveter (Google it).  Start with the trial and see how you like it.

Once you have your video done, you can upload it to your YouTube.com channel and put your affiliate link either in the first or second line of the video description (be sure to include the http:// to make sure it is clickable).  I would also recommend uploading it directly to your Facebook with a short description below it and again include your affiliate link below the short description.

Then you’ll put the video at the top of your blog post with a link to your capture page below it, then a brief written summary of what’s inside the video, and another link to your business.

A good format for your blog post (if you are not using the Kalatu 21-day challenge):

  • Value content (video, image, written, or all three)
  • Call to action (telling people why they should click your link, and then followed by your link to your capture page)
  • Signature (image of you, contact info & a P.S promoting your business, tool or resource).

Look at THIS blog post… we follow that template.

That’s It For Now On How to Start An Online Business

How to Start An Online Business with the IPAS2 System and Kalatu Blog – Day 3

How to Start An Online Business with the IPAS2 System and Kalatu Blog | Day 3” written by Mike Marko.

At this point we have already established that you are starting to learn “how to start an online business”.  And that you probably have your own reasons and goals for starting an online business.

This is day 3 in our series of blog posts where we’ll be teaching you how to start an online business using very actionable steps.  Learn from our success (and lessons learned) so that you can get on the path of financial freedom a lot quicker.

If you missed Day 1 of this training blog post, then click here to go to Day 1.

Or if you missed Day 2 of this training blog post, then click here to go to Day 2

Like we said in Day 1, depending on whether you have an online business already or not, some of these steps may not be directly applicable to you…  and that’s ok.  As long as you can use most of these steps you’ll be well underway in growing your online business.

I want to remind you to please keep revisiting this series of blog posts.  We plan to keep improving these blog posts to make sure that they are up to date and providing you the best possible value.

A Reminder Before We Start Today

I know that we have talked about this in the posts for the previous two days when we talked about starting your own online business, but… it is worth repeating again.  I want to make sure we are clear on one thing: this isn’ a get rich quick scheme.  But even with the proven techniques we’ll be discussing today on how to build an online business you may not make money tomorrow, you may not even make money in your first week, but with persistence and consistence action you will build a successful business.

It is very unfortunate a lot of people quit before they start making money online.  What they don’t realize is that they’re only one small adjustment or change away from making money online.  Just like the story from the book, Think & Grow Rich, you could be three feet from gold and be completely unaware.

I can’t emphasize enough that the key is that you have to stick with it, and put in daily effort.

Ok, enough of this… let’s get to the good stuff.

Day 3 of How to Start An Online Business

You will notice that some of these tasks today are very similar to the tasks from Day 2… but that’s ok.  The reason is that when you learn about how to start an online business a lot of it is about being consistent.

By now I expect you should have already gotten your copy of Kalatu… the Empower Network blogging system, and the affiliate license to be able to promote the blog.  Because if you don’t have a blog, then you are basically homeless on the internet.  You will have a harder time getting people to take you seriously if you are homeless.

How to Start An Online Business - MindsetPart 1: Mindset

There is no change to this step from Day 2… but we repeat this because you need to be doing this daily.  If you are are not in the right mindset before you do your marketing it will fail.  So just do it already.

You should have already filled out the “Major Definite Purpose Sheet” and read it already this morning.  If not, here is the template again:
Click here to download the Word Doc template if you have not yet!

Section 2 – Soak in Knowledge for 15 Minutes a Day (Part Time) 30-60 minutes (Full Time)

We recommend you read or listen to books to help learn more about leadership influence, sales & marketing.  This can also include going over the training within IPAS2 or Empower Network.  Here are some additional suggestions we recommend:

>Inner Circle Audio – If you have the Inner Circle Audio you should be listening to these throughout the day
>The Secret Code of Success – Noah St.

There are lots of ways to start building your list, but for now we’ll still focus on some basic examples.

Section #1 – Invest in Done-For-You Traffic

Done-for-you traffic is one of the easiest ways to start eyeballs on your website, generating leads, and making some sales.  You really need to try and find a marketing budget for paid traffic every month.  This will help create consistency and momentum.  The best part you can get the traffic without any effort on your part.

There is training in the IPAS2 Gold Members section on how to use traffic brokers.  And here are is another traffic brokers you can use:  MLM Leads.  If you are not a member of IPAS2 yet, you can check out more details in this IPAS2 Review.

Section #2 – Make Posts In Facebook Groups

Remember that posting in Facebook groups is best done right away in the morning.  The idea is that when people wake up, they see your post on their newsfeed. You can then post in five groups at a time every 2-3 hours.  There are many different types of Facebook posts you can make, but the more effective ones are questions that get people to comment and ask you for more information (you are starting a conversation), or posting proof that the business is working for you or others and asking people to like/comment to get more information about how they can do it too.

Here you can see example posts that you can model (please don’t copy these exactly… personalize them so that they sound like they are coming from you).

You should also get in the habit of making a couple Facebook posts per day.  I recommend you don’t talk about your business on your personal Facebook page… at least not directly at first.  Start by posting pictures of you and your family, inspiration quotes, or some fun videos or pictures.  You want your personal page to be a fun and motivating place to hang out.

And I recommend changing the settings on your personal page so that they are public. When people see your posts on Facebook groups, they will come and check you out on your personal page to see if they want to learn more.

Section #3 – Facebook Chat with 5-10 People (Part Time) 15-20 People (Full Time)

No matter if you are first learning how to start an online business, or been doing this for a while, starting up Facebook chats is the most effective thing you can do if you want to increase the amount of signups each and every day.  Many people take Facebook chatting for granted. But with Facebook chatting you could get 2-5 signups per day by eventually sending them to your website.

This works so well because people already trust you and can learn who you are from your profile.  They also have a better feeling that you’re going to be there to help them if they get started. Chatting on other social media sites (LinkedIn, Skype or Google +) works the exact same way.  In some cases chatting on our social media sites is even more effective because less people are doing it, and the people on those other platforms are more ‘business minded.’

Watch the IPAS2 training on how to chat with people right here under ‘Facebook Marketing Mastery – 2: Facebook Prospecting

How to Start An Online Business - Creating ContentPart 3: Creating Content

There are a lot of reasons to create your own content (videos and articles).  Among those reasons is that you have something valuable to give to send your email list.  The new content also helps attract new leads to your business through posting on Facebook and your other social media sites, putting your videos on YouTube, and ranking your blog posts in the search engines.  By using your own content, people get to know you better and you begin to build a connection and a following.  This is call “attraction marketing”, and it is how Bren and I make 90%+ of our online income (directly and indirectly).

Section #1 – Pick Your Topic of the Day (or Week)

We talk about how to pick your topic in Day 2, so I’m not going to cover that again.

If you are using the Kalatu blog, then there is a feature where the blogging platform will help generate blog ideas.  I found it practically extracts blog posts from me when you follow the 21-day challenge.

Section #2 – Create Content (Video, Written Blog Post, or Both)

Now it’s time to create some content.  The best content has a blog post AND a video, but you can choose to do either one if you don’t have enough time to do both.

When creating video, Bren and I just use our iPhones.  So just grab your cell phone and record yourself talking about the topic of the day for 2-3 minutes.  Make sure that towards the end tell people if they want to get started in a home business and make some extra money from home, then visit your website (and say the website name).  It’s that easy.  Keep the videos under 3 minutes!

It can be intimidating to create your first few videos.  I know.  But trust me when I tell you that each video gets easier and easier.  If you do this every day you’ll be surprised how comfortable you get doing them.

When you have your video finished, upload it to your YouTube.com channel.  Then put your affiliate link either in the first or second line of the video description (be sure to include the http:// to make sure it is clickable).  Then load it directly to your Facebook page with a short description below it and again include your affiliate link below the short description.

Then you’ll put the video at the top of your blog post with a link to your capture page below it, then a brief written summary of what’s inside the video, and another link to your business.

  • Call to action (telling people why they should click your link, followed by your link to your affiliate capture page)
  • Signature (image of you, contact info & a P.S promoting your business, tool or resource).

Look at THIS blog post… we follow this exact template.

That’s It For Now On How to Start An Online Business

Wait, Wha?- How to Use a Pattern Interrupt Technique.

“Wait, Wha?”- How to Use a Pattern Interrupt Technique written by Bren Koger.

I noticed a large shelf of supplements on the wall as I was leaving my gym today.

Do you see anything unusual about the ones on the middle shelf? Right, It’s missing a letter. I felt like it should say “PUMP.” or “AMP”

That’s what made me stop to take a closer look.

How to Use Pattern Interrupt Techniques

This is a perfect example of a clever way to get my attention through a pattern interrupt.

And it worked really well. Normally I’m rushing out the door, but this time I did a double take.

It turns out UMP is a protein supplement and stands for ultimate muscle protein, but it still caught my attention.

What’s a Pattern Interrupt?

A pattern interrupt, as the name implies, is a marketing technique that stops a prospect in their tracks and engages them.

When I saw the name on the container I stopped because I thought I was not seeing the first letter. I wanted to take a closer look to see if it was really there.

It caught my attention.

As marketers we are always vying for attention, and if we can’t find a way to capture peoples attentions quickly then it’s a missed opportunity.

There is only a short window, so we need to find a way to grab it while you can.

A pattern interrupt is usually a surprise or something out of the norm that says “Pay attention to me. I’m different.”

For instance, as a public speaker if you take the stage wearing a wife beater, bare feet, jeans, and long hair the normal expectation about how a top earning professional is supposed to take the stage is obliterated.

It’s provocative and gets your attention.

With blogs you can capture attention with a provocative headline or image. This interrupts your readers’ assumptions and expectations with something that piques their curiosity.

Time Magazine Examples of Pattern Interrupts

Here are a couple examples from Time magazine.

pattern interrupt techniques

pattern interrupt techniques

Adjectives and odd numbers are also good.

A great example might be: “7 Simple Tricks For Writing Catchy Headlines.”

Video

Other than a blog, videos are a great way to consistently build relationships with people quickly.

Videos show people the real you and help them feel like they’re connecting with you personally.  But you need a way to grab attention and stand out from all of the other videos out there

Final Word: Pattern Interrupt Techniques Work

We are all busy and many of us multitasking, so to capture attention and make people drop everything they’re doing to watch your video you need to make them want to see what happens next.

Here are a few ways to do that:

  1. Tell a joke or a funny story. Humor and story telling connects people in a powerful way
  2. Movement or noises in the background like occasional traffic noises or people walking by
  3. Wear something different. Like a crazy hat.

People want to have fun right? Make your videos fun and entertaining.

Videos are the top way to connect with your target audience, but people are busy and don’t always want to take the time to sit through a 5-minute video. So you need to catch their attention.

Whether it’s through blogging or video, try to make use of pattern interrupts to really grab your audience’s attention.

You will not only build a stronger connection with more people, but you will keep them coming back for more.

Can you think of other examples of a pattern interrupt?
