The Advantages and Disadvantages of Pinterest

“The Advantages of Pinterest and Disadvantages of Pinterest” written by Mike Marko.

You may have heard about Pinterest, and are now wondering if you should be using Pinterest as a social media marketing platform for you business.

When we started marketing online, we didn’t pay Pinterest too much attention.  We were primarily focused on Facebook because that was what we knew.

Turned out that was a huge mistake.  But is it right for your business?

But before you add Pinterest to your marketing plan, let’s talk about both the advantages of Pinterest and, of course, the disadvantages of Pinterest

Advantages of Pinterest vs Disadvantages of Pinterest

But first… let me answer the most basic question.

What is Pinterest?

Pinterest derived from two separate words, pin and interest. It is a web and mobile application company that operates a photo sharing website. It has defined itself as “the world’s catalog of ideas” or a visual discovery, collection and storage tool.

Pinterest was founded by Ben Silbermann, together with Paul Sciarra and Evan Sharp, in March 2010 and is now a huge success, making it one of the top social media networks. It is considered as the darling of social media.

Nine months after the launch, Pinterest already had 10,000 users registered. It slowly started to get noticed by magazines and started to make appearances in articles. In December 2011, the site became one of the top largest social network services.

Advantages of Pinterest

As a user myself of this social media site, I find it really interesting to browse and search for any ideas or pins that would show up on my feed. It thrills me knowing that I will be learning a lot on its DIY’s (Do It Yourself), sometimes with step by step photos provided which are very easy to understand.

Pinterest can be linked to your other social media accounts too… like Facebook and Twitter. Pinterest is one of the leading social media. That means you can get a wider range of target audience.

If you are a blogger like I am, it’s also an excellent place for promoting your articles or marketing your content.

There is something for everyone to enjoy on Pinterest. You would always get results after searching on what interests you most.

Pinterest is very beneficial for blogs and websites. Images that are posted on Pinterest boards and pins shared can be linked backed to the original site: that’s huge of the advantages of Pinterest.

Approximately 150 million users monthly which means this is a great platform to market your business.

Keep everything organized and share the things you love all in one place by creating your own board and adding pins to it. You can always go back and view whenever you want.

There are a lot of categories to choose from which can really catch attention, each having vibrant and wonderful pictures attached. You get to discover a lot of things you do not know yet and will really keep you interested to look for more.

Can teach you what you want to learn by just looking at the pictures or video. Example with girls, there is a step by step tutorial on how to get makeup done.

You can download Pinterest application available in smartphones. It’s a beautiful app that offers a rich experience that is very similar that of the full Web site. It’s great for creating boards, pinning items, sharing items, and even editing profile information.

You will get notifications on who pinned, followed, and reacted to your pins and boards. By that, you will know who your potential customers or target audience are.

And… you can also follow boards from other users and always get updated on their new pins.

Disadvantages of Pinterest

Along with Advantages are some Disadvantages of Pinterest…

The main advantage of Pinterest can also be its biggest disadvantage: it relies on images. That means you need to be very mindful of the images you post because it is the image that will attract followers. Poor pictures will have people that follow you skip past you in their feed and not read the message in your description.

There is no protection functionality to prevent others from stealing your images stored in a user account. Along those same lines, Pinterest makes it too easy to steal other people’s work.

There is a lesser range of Men who are Pinterest users. 81% are female which means your business designed for men may not totally succeed.

Instagram is only an iPhone and Android app. If you have Windows mobile, Blackberry, or Linux it won’t work. That means you won’t be reaching all your target audience.

Copyright Issues where using other photos and claiming it as yours may be subjective to violating Pinterest’s Terms and Conditions.

The search function often turns up completely unrelated items to what is being searched. This may be more related to the fact of mis-tagging the pins.

If your image does not sell, you pin will not be clicked on. Pinterest relies entirely on looks and not really text to sell ideas. You could have a great product but it can be easy to misrepresent what you offer in Pinterest.

Three Key Points to Consider When Marketing on Instagram

“Three Key Points to Consider When Marketing on Instagram” written and video by Mike Marko.

Are you looking for how to begin marketing on Instagram?

Instagram is a powerful way to promote your business or services online. What makes it more attractive is that people on Instagram are more active than any other social media platform, but there are a lot more Instagram benefits.

Setting up your Instagram account as a lead generating machine can be a bit tricky without the right guidance.  I know because we had to learn a lot of what it takes to master Instagram by paying mentors, courses, and trial and error.

That’s why I want to talk about how to start marketing on Instagram.

How to Start Marketing on Instagram

The following video talks about the three key points to consider when marketing on Instagram.

Tip #1: Pick A Niche

The first step is to pick a niche for your Instagram account.

So why use niche for your Instagram account?  I like to use the analogy of a big superstore like Walmart vs. Autozone… if you were looking for specific information or parts for your car… which one would you choose?  Most likely you would choose Autozone because they would be more knowledgeable and would have the parts you are looking for.

Or if you were really interested in a raw food recipe would you look for a generic website on cooking or would you go looking for a raw food recipe website?  I think that answer is pretty obvious too.

I can go on and on with examples… the fact is that you will develop a stronger following if you use a more narrowly focused niche for your Instagram account than if you account is more broad.  With the recent updates to the Instagram account, you can now register a couple accounts on your phone and be able to bounce between them.  That means it is easier to manage multiple accounts that each focus on a specific niche.

At the time of writing this article, we have over twenty two different instagram accounts all focused on different niches.  Most businesses only need on Instagram account.

For more guidance on picking a niche for your Instagram account, check out this blog post, Niche Advertising with Instagram – How to Pick A Niche for Instagram.

Tip #2: Choose Something to Promote

The next step is to choose something to… well sell.

The point of marketing online is to make money.  Now what you promote can be any number of things:

  • Professional services
  • Digital products
  • Physical products

If you don’t already have someone to promote, then I recommend starting off with digital products.  There are lots of digital products out there that you do not have to create, and can sell without having to worry about customer support, technical support, etc.

You can also choose physical products, but I recommend picking products where you don’t have to worry about inventory or shipping.  There are lots of affiliate products out there that you can promote.

The key is to make sure that what you promote is congruent with niche.

For example, if you have an Instagram account that focuses on Siamese cats, then it is best to sell cat related products and services.  If you start promoting something like… car parts, then you are not servicing your audience.

Tip #3: Narrow Down Your Target Audience

Talking about audience… the third and final thing to identify your target audience.

Getting to know your target audience is an important part of marketing.  Often the more narrow the focus the better.

This article talks about creating a target audience for a blog, but the process is identical for an Instagram account.

Tips for Becoming an Online Marketer

“Tips for Becoming an Online Marketer” written by Bren Koger.

Most people that start internet marketing give up soon after they realize the amount of effort it takes with very little profit right away.

They are attracted to affiliate marketing as an easy way to make money, but soon realize that it’s not as easy as it might seem.

It requires commitment and persistent hard work.

Here are a few we would like to share with you from our years of experience :

Know who you are marketing to. Have a clearly defined target audience.  For example, know if it’s men or women. What is their age group? What do they do for a living?

Then when you communicate with your audience through a blog, email or video you will have that person in mind. It allows you to better connect with your prospective buyers.

Read blogs in your niche Find someone you admire and want to emulate, read their blog and get on their mailing list.

Read marketing blogs You don’t need to read a lot of blogs. Neil Patel recommends Search Engine Land and Marketing Land. They will give you general industry news, and Moz and Quick Sprout will teach you the tactics.

Watch training videos– Online marketing is broken down into a few main categories here are three training videos in some of the top three:

5 Big Benefits of Selling Big Ticket Items

“5 Big Benefits of Selling Big Ticket Items” written by Mike Marko.

Are you making some sales in your business, but are struggling to really make it “big”?

Maybe you’re hauling but selling tons of $7 or $25 products, but the effort doesn’t seem to add up to anything substantial.

I understand that struggle, because I was there.  I used to focus a lot on these lower ticket items.  I thought if I sold ENOUGH of them, that they would add up especially if they were residual income.

The truth be told, you really need big ticket items to become profitable online and have a great income.

That’s why I want to talk today about the benefits of selling big ticket items.

Benefits of Selling Big Ticket Items

Before we dive into the benefits, let’s pause for a second and first give a brief definition of what is a big ticket item.

What Is A Big Ticket Item?

A big ticket item is anything that sells for more than $500.

Pretty simple, huh?

So let’s take a look at the benefits of selling big ticket items.

Benefit #1: It Isn’t Much More Difficult to Sell Big Ticket Items

This may be a tough pill to swallow for some.  If you are struggling to sell a $7 product, I’m sure you’re asking why is it not much more difficult to sell bigger ticket items?

That’s because the only real difference between selling smaller ticket items vs. bigger ticket items is positioning.  Your position as an authority and someone to be trusted in the industry helps you sell bigger ticket items.  And becoming that authority isn’t too difficult… and I can help.

But the point I’m trying to make is that building up the need and the ultimate sale of a big ticket item doesn’t take a lot more effort than the smaller ones.  This means for roughly the same effort you can magnify your profits.

Benefit #2: Multiple Streams of Income

Your big ticket items should serve as a product value ladder for your business.  This means you can market multiple big ticket items.  And when you include a smaller ticket item you can use that as a funded proposal or liquidating offer… basically helping cover your ad spend while you go after the big ticket items.

With all this working for you, even if one product has a slow down in sales, the other products may be doing fine.

Now I/m not telling you to go out and promote a ton of different big ticket items. The products still need to be congruent to your overall business, and have to be high quality.  In the long term, this will serve you much better than a “scatter-gun” approach to big ticket sales.

When you have the ability to promote several high quality, big ticket items, you can diversify your income streams WHILE serving your customers.  And you are dependent on one stream alone should the market slow in that area.

Struggling Getting the Business Success You Deserve - yellow text 3

Benefit #3: Differentiate Yourself

There are a ton of marketers promoting products.  Many of these products are e-books or other low profit items.

How will you differentiate yourself from everyone else selling low ticket products?

I believe the best way to differentiate yourself is to sell big ticket items.  Many are uncomfortable selling items with a big price tag (like I was) because they have a hard time believing that someone would pay for a product they would struggle to buy themselves, or because they don’t see the value in what they are selling.

That’s why it’s vitally important to sell products and services you BELIEVE IN.  Once you believe in the product or service, promoting it to customers is easy because you’ll feel a disservice for NOT promoting it to them.

Also selling big ticket items gains you the respect that selling low ticket items can never give you.

Selling big ticket items puts you in another class from those who only promote low ticket products.

Benefit #4: Bigger Residual Income

You can actually have big ticket items that generate a residual income for you.  Imagine getting paid $500, $1000, or even $2000 every month from one sale!  That’s the power of bigger ticket items.

Now compare that to a $25/month product.  How many more $25/month products do you have to sell to get to $500/month?  Twenty!  That means you have to both find and sell to nineteen more customers to get the same income as one $500/month sale.

Remember Benefit #1?  Isn’t the bigger ticket item now sounding even easier to sell?

free bootcamp training mini course internet marketing - mike marko - smm - seo - search engine optimization

Benefit #5: Bigger Return On Your Advertising Dollar

The last benefit I want to talk today about is when you promote big ticket items is that you get a bigger return on your advertising dollar.

Even if you are paying several dollars per lead because you have to make the ads more laser targeted, the return on selling big ticket items is much better than selling cheaper products.  When you combine that with the liquidating offer I mention in Benefit #2, you can literally give you income a huge boost.

And when you are promoting quality products and services, those customers are just going to want MORE!  That means they will want even more of your big ticket items, and your life-time value of your customers sky rockets!

Final Words on Promoting Big Ticket Items

There are a lot of benefits to promoting big ticket items… too many to ignore.  If you are not selling big ticket items as part of your business, you are doing you and your customers a disservice.

Sean Stephenson – Overcoming Fears & Self-Limiting Behaviors

In this interview with therapist and international motivational speaker Dr. Sean Stephenson, we talk about the effects of fear on our lives. How we often fear the things we need to do to grow mentally, physically and spiritually. It starts at 11:31.

[jwplayer player=”1″ mediaid=”21745″]

Make a List

In this video, I ask Sean about his list of 20 things that scare him but would be empowering to do.

Here are a few from his list

  1. Be sketched in the nude by a college art class
  2. Do an online product launch
  3. Be a father

Different Kinds of Fear

In the video he makes the distinction between a fear that is holding us back and a fear that is dangerous to your health and well-being.

You don’t want to do something that will cause danger to your life or be too risky like walk out in traffic or get in a cage with a gorilla or just quit your job without a plan. That’s not what he is talking about with this list.

He’s talking more about the kinds of fears that would empower us and cause us to grow but have a chance of bruising our ego.

We all have an ego and it is a necessary part of our lives, but it can hold us back partly because our ego has a fear of failure and what other people might think of us.

As long as we are alive and human we have an ego trying to run the show. We just need to keep it in check.

We just need to keep it from running our life by letting the ego know we are going to do things that we are scared of and it could possibly make our ego uncomfortable.

With the help of a supportive environment and a way to be held accountable, you can use this powerful tool to develop new skills and greater self-confidence.

Your Fears Exercise

Before you make your list I suggest you do a little homework  Don’t ever commit to anything on your list blindly. Weigh out the risk, be prepared to follow through and then go for it.

Here is my list of 20

  1. Speak from stages of thousands of people
  2. Go to a restaurant alone
  3. Approach a stranger and ask for….

  16. Bungee jump
  17. Run another marathon
  18. do my own taxes

Be An Effective Marketer – How to Sell On The Internet

“Be An Effective Marketer – How to Sell On The Internet” written by Bren Koger.

I’ve never thought of myself as a sales type of personality. When I think of a typical sales person, I think of a kind of pushy aggressive used car salesman type of person and the idea of making a living making sales would have been one of my last choices for a career.

So how did I end up as an internet marketer?

Learning How to Sell On the Internet

The truth is we are constantly selling even if we don’t have a formal career in sales. When you talk about something you are passionate about and have a degree of transparency you are selling who you are and people develop a degree of trust in you.

If you believe in what you do sales naturally follow.

As our online business has grown we have made many new connections on social media with people selling a service or product.

It surprises me how many of these people I’ve met online take the “used car salesman” route and immediately hit me with a link to an offer or start pitching something they are selling.

Asking For A Date

I think of sales like asking someone for a date.

When you meet someone you don’t want to walk up to that person and say, “Hi,  Do you want to go home with me? If Mike had tried that we would not be where we are today. 🙂

You would, at least, want to try to get to know them before you make that kind of an offer. It’s the same with pitching an opportunity or a service you are selling. It’s best to…

  • Introduce yourself first. “Hi, I’m Mike, It’s great to meet you.” Strike up a conversation.
  • If all goes well set up a meeting to see if your connection is mutually beneficial.
  • Continue to connect until you eventually commit to one another or go your separate ways.

Being An Effective Marketer

Selling follows the same track. In order to create interest, you must get past the first few steps. This is where most people drop the ball. When they immediately start talking about their offer or service they sell.
In other words, they’re asking the other person “Do you want to go home with me?” far too soon.

You are selling yourself all the time, so use this information to attract attention in the right way
to your ideal prospects,

The Effective Marketer Builds A Relationship First

Instead of using people for a sale, build relationships with them that translate into getting closer to your goals i.e. turn them into a team member.

Take Napoleon Hill’s advice in his self-confidence formula from his classic book on self-development “Think and Grow Rich.”

“I will engage in no transaction which does not benefit all whom it affects. I will succeed by attracting to myself the forces I wish to use, and the cooperation of other people. I will induce others to serve me, because of my willingness to serve others. I will eliminate hatred, envy, jealousy, selfishness, and cynicism, by developing love for all humanity, because I know that a negative attitude toward others can never bring me success. I will cause others to believe in me, because I will believe in them, and in myself.”

  1. Knowing this, will you go on Twitter or Facebook messaging affiliate links willy-nilly? Or will you treat people with the respect they deserve by engaging them in a conversation.
  2. Knowing this, will you post negative or complaining comments or videos? Or will you run everything by your “Does this fit my brand?” filter?
  3. Knowing this, will you condemn and criticize people, or bad-mouth anyone in a post on social media or lose your temper and go off on a rant on a video? Or will you tweak this behavior to fit how you want your brand to be perceived?

Final Thoughts On How to Sell On the Internet

So the next time you are chatting online or drafting an email to your email list, think about the dating analogy.

Ask them to “go to dinner”

develop a rapport.

The results will be well worth  the little bit of effort and patience. You will be building true relationships and a lasting legacy.

Building Your Network Marketing Business

“Building Your Network Marketing Business” written by Mike Marko.

Are you struggling in your personal business?

Wondering why you can’t get traction and get some meaningful success?

It was like this for the six months of our online business.  It wasn’t until I realized the true nature of building your network marketing business before success started to build.

Today I’m going to talk about what you need to consider when building your network marketing business.

[jwplayer player=”1″ mediaid=”16762″]

Building Your Network Marketing Business

In this business I see so many people in network marketing businesses trying to recruit people in the most unprofessional ways. They go through their ‘list’ or through social media like Facebook, and literally send out the exact same message to every person. This message is usually not personalized.  And more often than not, these messages are long and/or spammy.

When I receive these messages I usually cringe…

The Spam Fest

Thousands and thousands of people every month start network marketing businesses across the world. These people then, using poor marketing techniques, clog the Facebook news feeds and personal messages with their desperate marketing messages.

They swarm in on Facebook groups and spam the heck out of them…. it’s a real turn off.  Not only is it very unprofessional it also doesn’t work.

You can be better and work smarter than this.

Building Your Network Marketing Business By Becoming a Friend

Be a friend.

You should reach out and build relationships with people.

Connect.

Gain their trust.

Enjoy professional exchanges with them.

Now I know it will be more time consuming initially, but it can be more fun, interesting, and more effective than spamming dozens of Facebook messages to people you don’t know… until you get blocked by Facebook and have to start a new account.

Target Your Messages

Take the time to only send your message to people that can benefit from your offer.  Do so because you are being genuinely helpful and interested in helping solve their need.  if you are trying to solve their needs or a problem they have, you will come across a lot differently than if you are just trying to sell.

Because let’s face it: nobody likes being sold to (but we all like to buy).

Work From a Contact List

I recommend working from a contact list.  This can be people that have expressed an interesting by opting into your email list, or even people that have Friended you on Facebook.  This works best because they have already started to get to know you.

Keep adding to this list on a daily basis. Also nurture these lists by working on building a relationship by providing value and showing that you genuinely want to help.

Why? Because your list(s) are gold to you.

Final Words on Building Your Network Marketing Business

Treat your lists like gold, and they will pay you back. Cultivate their trust and respect and they will start hunting you down to speak to you about your opportunity rather than you having to desperately hunt then down and harass them to find 1 recruit.

Go and make some friends and look after them. You won’t regret it.

Use the Force For Living a Longer Life

“Use the Force For Living a Longer Life” written by Bren Koger.

Use the Force for Living a Longer Life

Without the midi-chlorians, life could not exist, and we would have no knowledge of the Force. They continually speak to us, telling us the will of the Force. When you learn to quiet your mind, you’ll hear them speaking to you.” ― Qui-Gon Jinn, to Anakin Skywalker

Whether you call it a life force, spirit or midi-chlorians there is a force that emanates through every living thing.

And it thrives on creativity.

Being Creative

We can’t help but create. We were born creative beings. And the things we think about the most we create into our reality

There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe.

A thought, in this substance, Produces the thing that is imaged by the thought.

Man can form things in his thought, and, by impressing his thought upon formless substance, can cause the thing he thinks about to be created. – Wallace D. Wattles

Being creative is so important that when we stop creating we die. We literally lose that life force

People who retire and stop having goals age faster than those who remain productive through their entire life. Some people even die within a few years of retirement.

The Alternative to Retiring

On the other hand, the people that thrive well beyond 65 often times do some of their most creative work

Here is a list of people who did some of their best work after 75

Michaelangelo did some his best painting past 80

Picasso painted past 75

Edison was still inventing at 90

Shaw was still writing plays at 90

Grandma Moses painted at 79

The list goes on and on.

The Secret?

What was their secret to living a longer life? They stayed vital and productive. They didn’t allow their age to convince them they were no longer valuable. Many men die within a year of retirement because they no longer feel useful. That’s how important it is to have a goal to strive for without that creative urge we die. We are no longer using the life force.

We age not by years but by events and our emotional reaction to them- Arnold Hutschnecker

They didn’t dwell in the past but stayed in the moment to quiet the mind and listen to what comes in.

They then have the Faith to act on these thoughts no matter what society is saying

Courage is the force that makes our lives brilliant

Optimism– being grateful and saying positive affirmations will support your energy and intentions into the now moment where we hold our power.

Looking forward to the future – we are not meant to dwell in the past. It no longer exists As we grow older (65+ yrs) we tend to think about our accomplishments Erik Erikson believed if we see our lives as unproductive, feel guilt about our past, or feel that we did not accomplish our life goals, we become dissatisfied with life and develop despair, often leading to depression and hopelessness.

Live in the moment

Final Words About Living a Longer Life

Many centenarians say having a life purpose is at the top of the longevity list. Stay happy people  and have a reason to get up in the morning. Think about your life purpose. Make a personal mission statement. Another way to keep curiosity in peak condition is to keep learning. Perhaps you’d like to learn to speak Spanish or take a dance class. A key to long life is never lose your childlike wonder about life. Make it a point to do something new and creative every day.

“It’s never too late to be the person you should have been” – George Elliott

I believe 100% that the Law of Attraction is real. There have been way too many situations, and things that have happened to me to think otherwise.

As I discussed today, you can learn how to use Law of Attraction. It really is up to you, and what you want to create in your life. Visualize yourself as your new future self, and BELIEVE you already have everything you desire, and you will manifest what you have created in your mind.

In fact ever since I started using the product, Subconscious Mind Tapping, things have started manifesting health and other things into my life even more than before.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.  Why continue the trend when there is help available?
