SEO Consultant in Malaysia for Businesses That Need Both Google and AI Search
I'm an SEO consultant based in Kuala Lumpur. I work with Malaysian SMEs on the two things that decide whether people find you now: ranking in Google, and getting quoted by ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews. Most agencies here bolt SEO onto a social media retainer and hope. That is not what this is. You get one consultant, 20+ years of it, and a plan scoped to your market rather than to the size of the invoice.

What an SEO and GEO engagement covers
Technical SEO
Crawlability, site architecture, indexation, and Core Web Vitals. I start every engagement in Google Search Console rather than in a keyword tool, because a site Google cannot crawl properly will not rank no matter what is written on it.
Topical authority content
Coverage across every subtopic your category contains, not a list of twelve keywords. This is the part that takes months and the part that compounds.
GEO / AI visibility
Structuring your site so AI answer engines can quote it, then tracking which prompts actually return you. Different mechanism from ranking, different measurement, same underlying work on entities and structure.
What it costs
Growth
RM8,000/monthEverything in Lean, plus AI prompt tracking and 3 backlinks per month

SEO isn't a mysterious dark art -- it's a repeatable, process-driven strategy. Here's exactly how we build authority for a Malaysian SME from scratch.
Topical authority build-out
Coverage across your category's subtopics, built in an order that reflects what your buyers search first. Most Malaysian SME sites I look at have four service pages and a blog that stopped in 2023. The gap is not effort. It is that nobody mapped the category before writing.
Strategic backlink campaign
Targeted placements that compound the authority phase one built. Three a month on the Growth plan, chosen for relevance rather than for a metric on a dashboard.
The part most agencies here skip
Google does not read your page as a stream of words. It cuts the page into blocks, records where each block sits and how it is emphasised, and builds its understanding from the relationships between those blocks. That is described in US12393768B2, a Google patent on layout-aware document understanding with a December 2020 priority date, granted in August 2025. The practical consequence is unglamorous: where a block sits on the page changes what the page is understood to be about. I audit layout as part of technical work rather than treating it as design. It is the closest thing to an unclaimed advantage in this market right now, because almost nobody is doing it.
SEO specialists, not marketing do-it-alls.
There's no shortage of agencies offering SEO as a bolt-on service. We only do SEO and GEO. You wouldn't trust your accountant to do your legal work, so don't trust a generalist agency with your organic visibility.
You work with me. Not an account manager who relays questions to a junior, and not a team that changes every six months. The trade is real and worth stating: I take a limited number of clients, and I will tell you if yours is not a fit rather than take the retainer. If you need paid social, brand design, and video, hire an agency. If you need organic visibility in Google and in AI search, that is the whole of what I do.
Plans are scoped around what's realistic for your market, not what closes the sale.
Every deliverable ties back to rankings and qualified traffic, not vanity activity.
Frequently asked questions
Malaysian SEO retainers generally run between RM900 and RM10,000 a month. Plans here start at RM4,000 for technical SEO and content strategy, and RM8,000 adds AI prompt tracking and three link placements a month. Freelancers charge less, usually RM80 to RM300 an hour, and agencies charge more for the same scope because there are more people between you and the work.
Most Malaysian SME sites show measurable ranking movement in three to six months. Competitive categories like property, insurance, and legal services take longer, often nine to twelve. Anyone promising page one in ninety days is either working in a category with no competition or is about to do something you will have to undo.
GEO, generative engine optimisation, is the work of getting a business quoted by AI answer engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews. It shares most of its mechanics with SEO, structured content, clear entity signals, and corroboration across independent sources, but it is measured differently. Rankings do not tell you whether ChatGPT recommends you. Prompt tracking does.
Yes. Most work happens remotely, and clients across the Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor are all straightforward. Local SEO for a physical location does need accurate Google Business Profile data, which is easier when I can see the premises, but it is not a blocker.
